Destiny Rescue “Hair for Care” Raffle Fundraiser at unDONE Salon!

2014 was a big year for unDONE as Kimberli Denton and her team of unDONE stylists traveled to Chiang Rai, Thailand to work with other Destiny Rescue volunteers in an effort  to help change lives overseas while providing industry training to young girls who are rescued from sex trafficking or sexual exploitation.

Upon visiting the girls in Chiang Rai, I found myself asking, “Why?” Why in America do we often turn a blind eye to these children. What is it that makes us any better than them? The only difference is that they were born into a society in need of better education. They are hard working people, and there is no welfare to support them. Their only means of survival is to work as education is rarely available. I understand that while those in need of help choose to live, they did not choose to live the lives they were given, and it hurts my heart knowing there are really no answers to any of my questions.” – Kimberli Denton

This year, unDONE will be partnering with Visual Effects Salon & Spa, and Graffiti Hair Salon to raise money for the “Hair for Care” campaign – a non-profit organization created by Kimberli Denton and formed by a group of hair stylist’s for a cause they believe in through various means such as cut-a-thons, raffles and donations. During the entire month of August 2015, raffle tickets can be purchased at all three salon locations in order to help raise money for the Kampong Cham Project.

In an effort to help provide for these children’s futures, raffle tickets for gift baskets will be sold at $5.00 apiece. The drawing will be held the first week in September, and the winners will be notified.

About the Kampong Cham Project

Since hair & beauty is often a sought-after vocation for many girls in Cambodia and is a popular choice of vocational training for rescued children, Destiny Rescue currently has 10 girls in their Kampong Cham home who want to begin a training course and work towards being employed once they complete the Destiny Rescue program. All proceeds and money raised from the raffle will go towards helping these girls pay their training fees, their small salary, provide transport and cover needed materials they will use during their training course.

The school is a three month course where the girls get a basic education in country-specific skills to prepare them for a future career in hair and beauty. In Cambodia that means teaching not just hairstyling but nail technology and make-up skills. This course is taught in a classroom environment by an enthusiastic teacher, giving the girls excitement for their education. But more than skills, the girls learn confidence in the classroom, belief in their ability to do good work and excel in their chosen profession.

Working in hair and beauty in Cambodia can be difficult but the girls in Destiny Rescue’s program have an advantage.

Traditionally, girls who enter these salons must work for a year to complete their training, but  Destiny Rescue girls only need six months because the salons know they’ve already received such a solid foundation from the Destiny Rescue school. Upon finishing, the girls will then possess some of the highest skills in their field.
