Why Powder Brows Are Better Than Microblading
Permanent makeup has become very popular these days due to the ease it gives women of not having to draw or fill in their eyebrows every day. This is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic when our eyes and brows are often the only thing people see due to wearing masks.
While microblading has been trending all over the internet and social media, there’s a new, less invasive procedure available to create a natural, semi-permanent look – powder brows. But what makes powder brows better than microblading? At unDONE Salon, we get asked this question a lot. That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following benefits of powder brows and what sets this technique apart from microblading.
Less Invasive
Powder brows are applied to the skin using a small handheld wand that disperses extremely fine pigment into and across your skin using an airbrush-shading technique. Microblading, on the other hand, uses a different type of handheld tool that creates small cuts into the skin with a sharp blade. This technique’s repeated strokes are much more invasive because they can quickly cause trauma to the skin as strokes are often repeated into the same spots.
Less Pain
Powder brows are less painful due to the technique applied, which results in less trauma to the skin vs. microblading. Because microblading involves cutting into the skin, there is also more bleeding involved. With powder brows, there is minimal pain or bleeding during the procedure. In fact, most of our clients at unDONE report that the procedure feels more like an electric toothbrush being pressed against their skin or rapid tweezing.
Longer Lasting
How long microblading or powder brows last depend on your skin type and individual lifestyle. However, most powder brow treatments using high-quality pigments typically last 1-2 years. Microblading, however, often requires more frequent touch-ups, resulting in long-term wear and tear to the skin, which can cause permanent scarring. That’s why it’s important to choose the less invasive method of powder brows to save your skin’s integrity.
Good For All Skin Types
No matter your skin type, powder brows are a wonderful option compared to microblading, which isn’t suitable for those with oily skin. Why? People with oily skin often require more microblading touch-ups, resulting in more trauma to the skin.
Natural Looking
While powder brows provide you with a more “filled-in” look immediately after treatment, the results after the healing process appear as a softly shaded brow pencil. In fact, powder brows will fade up to 30%, leaving you with a soft, natural look and shape that our clients love.
