Spring Cleaning: Caring for Your Hands & Nails

With the weather so warm, and summer just around the corner, most of us are busy with spring cleaning tasks. However, with all the yard work and pulling weeds, it’s important not to neglect your hands and nails in the process. Taking care of your hands and nails isn’t just limited to wearing gloves. Below are some things to look out for when it comes to maintaining the health and beauty of your hands:

Water
Whether you’re doing the dishes or working in the garden, submerging your nails in water for long periods of time can be very damaging. Water can not only dry out your hands, it can weaken your nails causing them to split, peel, or break easily. Try limiting water exposure, and make sure to wear gloves when possible. Also, a clear top coat can help make bare nails a little more water resistant.

Chemicals
There are a variety of everyday products we use that contain chemicals that can damage your skin and nails.

  • Hand Soap
  • Nail Polish Removers
  • Dish & Laundry Detergent
  • Bleach
  • Kitchen & Bathroom Solvents

Using products without wearing gloves exposes your hands and nails to heavy-duty chemicals that can dry, damage and strip them. Bleach is especially damaging.

Weather
During the summer, we tend to drink more water due to hotter temperatures. Don’t forget that your hands and nails are thirsty too! Make sure to invest in a quality moisturizer and use it often.  Also, Vitamin E is ideal to rub on your nails and cuticles when they are especially dry and in need of a little extra TLC.

Boise Nail Salon Tips For Maintaining Healthy Hands & Nails This Summer
While wearing gloves is important there are a few other things you can do to maintain the health and beauty of your hands and nails this summer.

  • Trim, don’t cut hangnails.
  • Limit use of hand sanitizers.
  • Use moisturizing hand soaps.
  • Massage nails and cuticles with Vitamin E or a cuticle oil.
  • Push back cuticles, rather than cutting them.
  • Exfoliate your hands and nails before moisturizing.
  • Avoid heavily scented hand creams that can further dry out your nails.
  • Limit your use of polish removers, especially those that contain acetone.
  • Wear cotton gloves at night while sleeping (after putting on hand cream).
  • Slather on a high quality hand cream everyday and at night before bed.

  • Body waxing last longer when compared to shaving because it removes hair by the roots.

  • No stubble! No more rough, abrasive skin in between shaving…
  • Body waxing is not only fast but a convenient way to remove hair for longer results.
  • Less irritating to skin when compared to shaving that often leaves behind nicks and cuts caused by a razor.

Before and After Body Waxing Tips

  • Its very important to exfoliate up to two days before body waxing to help remove dead skin cells.
  • Moisturize daily to help your skin stay soft in between body waxing treatments.
  • Avoid using topical alcohol before a body waxing appointment because it tighten pores.
  • Protect your skin from sun damage by using a proper SPF sunscreen. It is also especially important to avoid excessive sun exposure in order to avoid redness during the first 24 hours after a body waxing treatment.

Improve Skin Texture & Fine Lines With Micro-Needling at Undone Salon!

Over time, increased exposure to the sun, the environment and the aging process can damage our skin. This damage then shows itself in the form of fine lines, sun spots, wrinkles or discoloration. While there is a whole host of things to help correct, minimize or erase these issues, imagine improving the look and feel of your skin, simply by using your own natural healing abilities!

The process of micro-needling is a non-invasive, Boise hair salon treatment that helps to erase scars and smooth wrinkles with a device that gently rolls across the face, pricking your skin with tiny needles. Your skin reacts immediately by producing more collagen, helping to diminish scars and wrinkles while improving the overall look of your skin! This popular Boise hair salon treatment can be used on any skin type, and is a brief procedure with minimal recovery time.

What conditions can be treated or improved with Micro-Needling?

  • Stretch marks
  • Loose, lax skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin texture and pore size
  • Mild to moderate acne scarring (new or old scars)

Who can use it?

A micro-needling, Boise hair salon treatment is suitable for all skin types. It can be used by men or women and is used to improve signs of aging due to excessive sun exposure, acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, pigmentation, blackheads, wrinkles, and loose body skin.

Is it Painful?

Prior to your Boise hair salon, micro-needling treatment, numbing cream can be applied to help minimize any discomfort you may feel during the procedure. Some people will experience redness and mild swelling that’s similar to a sunburn for 24-48 hours after the treatment with minimal pin-point bleeding or bruising. However, within a week or two, you will begin to notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant! Keep in mind that for full effects you will have to wait an additional, couple of months.

What are the Results?

  • A reduction in pore size
  • Stimulated tissue regeneration.
  • Improved appearance of stretch marks.
  • Improved skin texture with a reduction in fine lines & wrinkles.
  • Disfiguring scars (especially acne scars) will be improved as new collagen fibers elevate the depressed scar tissue with the periphery skin.

Get healthier, fresher skin with a Boise hair salon, micro-needling treatment! For more information or to schedule a micro-needling appointment, contact Undone Salon today. Micro-needling is the perfect complement to our variety of skincare treatments, and we are excited to offer it to you!

Boise Nail Salon Tips for Winterizing Your Hands & Nails

Just as our hair, and skin suffers during the dry winter months, our hands and nails suffer too. Nails thrive on humidity. Unfortunately however, Idaho maintains a cold, dry climate during the winter, and by spending time indoors with the furnace on, your nails can become dehydrated and brittle. Keep in mind that unless you wear gloves 24/7, your hands get almost as much air exposure as your face! But, just as the seasons change, so should your hand and nail care routine. Below are some cold weather, Boise nail salon tips to help rescue your hands from the effects of winter:

  • Massage nails and cuticles with a cuticle oil.

Why it’s Important to Pre-Book Your Holiday Boise Hair Salon Appointment!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And as we all know, the days ahead will be booked with holiday parties and celebrations. However, it’s important to keep in mind that it’s your Boise hair salon’s busiest season as well since women and men from all over the Treasure Valley will be booking appointments for their next holiday haircolor, cut, or style.

Below are some helpful Boise hair salon tips for taking the stress out of your next holiday hair appointment:

1. Book Your Boise Hair Salon Appointment NOW

If you’ve marked the date of your next holiday party on the calendar, make sure to call your Boise hair salon stylist to reserve your hair appointments now. Don’t wait until the week of your next major event only to find out it may be next to impossible to squeeze you in.

2. Book Your Appointment For The Exact Boise Hair Salon Service You Want

The holiday season one of Undone’s busiest seasons. Be considerate. Don’t walk into your Boise hair salon requesting services you didn’t book for in advance. Make sure to have any chemical processes (haircolor, perms, etc.) done before your special occasion appointment to help avoid rushing your Boise hair salon stylist to complete the service you need done so you can get to your party on time. Keep in mind that many Boise hair salon stylists also have plans & family commitments of their own, so make sure to discuss any needed chemical processes with your stylist in advance.

3. Bring Pictures

Be prepared. If you have an idea of what you want your hair to look like, show a picture of it to your Boise hair salon stylist. Doing so will help you and your stylist achieve the special look you want. If the look requires hair extensions, make sure call ahead of time and ask their opinion on what length, style and texture would work best for you.

While the holiday season can be one of the busiest times of year, a little proper planning and a few simple steps can ensure you get to look and feel your absolute best before your next major event. The key here though is to PLAN. Now is the time to get your calendar out and start booking your holiday Boise hair salon appointments so you have one less thing to stress about!

Keeping Up on Your Boise Pedicure During the Winter Months Ahead

With fall in full swing & winter fast approaching we all know that boot season is well on its way to the Treasure Valley. When it’s cold outside it’s very common for us to keep our feet safely hidden & warm, so it’s only natural that a Boise pedicure at unDONE Salon will become less of a priority. However, it’s important to remember what a difference groomed feet can make to your overall happiness.

On that note, your Boise hair salon wants to provide you a few good reasons to keep up with your Boise pedicure during non-sandal season:

A Boise pedicure will help make your life easier in the long run.

It’s no secret that we all delight seeing that pile of grated skin pile up during a Boise pedicure, however, it’s a LOT more effective to simply use a foot file or pumice stone for approximately one minute each day in the shower.

No cringing every time you pull on tights or slip between the sheets

We all know the feeling of dry skin patches on our feet catching on the soft fabric of some of our favorite things. Like nails on a chalkboard, this unsettling sensation can easily be cured with a Boise pedicure.

Self confidence baby!

A Boise pedicure will help you feel like a super-pulled-together girl during your next yoga or other barefoot workout session (even if you still struggle throughout the actual workout)!

You can go cozily barefoot inside your Uggs

Don’t be caught off guard when you enter a house where you are expected to remove your comfy shoes. A Boise pedicure will help eliminate the satisfaction of others judging your heavily chipped black toenail polish!

It’s just plain sexy.

Think about it. Look at the models feet above & face the fact that during the winter you’re about to let your feet become hideous. If you don’t want to invest in a Boise pedicure, you might as well stock up on some granny panties too…

Bonus reason:

As your Boise nail salon, unDONE is a great place to escape and relax when the weather is cold and crappy outside. Not only can you get a Boise manicure & pedicure but a Boise spray tan as well!

DONE Boise Hair Salon & BarkAID founder Patrick Lomantini raised $1005 to support BarkAid for saving homeless animals!

On Sept 17th, 2015 the Boise hair salon stylists at unDone partnered with Patrick Lomantini, founder of BarkAID for $20 haircuts to help raise a total of $1005 for Fuzzy Pawz Rescue – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to finding loving families for homeless dogs and cats in Idaho and Utah.

Below is a brief transcript of the unDONE’s interview with Patrick Lomantini, Boise hair salon stylist Brittney Tetro and the director of Fuzzy Paws, Amy:

Patrick: My name is Patrick Lomantini and we’re in Boise Idaho and I’m at this amazing salon called unDONE Salon and I’m with the amazing Brittney and if it wasn’t for her none of this would have happened, and I’m also with Amy from Fuzzy Paws rescue – the ones who benefited today and I just wanted to take a second to say we had an amazing day in Boise.

This is our 4th national tour and it’s our first time here and we had a great day and did 40 haircuts and raised a lot of money for what they do and we really appreciate what they do for the community here. And I also want to take a second here and say hi to Brittany and ask her how she felt about having this at her Boise hair salon.

Brittney: I couldn’t have been happier with the turnout. It was very good and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Patrick: Let me tell you something about Brittany. She was fantastic. She kept the flow going and we had a lot of people here and she also took the day off and I was able to use her station and not only was it a selfless act on her but it was fantastic how professional she was and she helped me pick up the slack when I fell behind. So I can’t thank you enough. It was fantastic.

And Amy, how do you feel about the event?

Amy: It was awesome and we had a great time and we can’t thank the ladies at unDONE enough for stepping up when we got a little behind and we’d like to thank you (Patrick) for all your hard work and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Patrick: Yeah, we had a great day and we just want to tell everybody that Boise, Idaho has it going together & has it going on!

In total, BarkAID has risen over $300,000 in its short existence with Patrick Lomantini and his teams around the United States having performed over 6,000 haircuts. At this time, unDONE couldn’t be prouder to have participated in helping such a good cause and from all of our Boise hair salon stylists we would like to thank the Treasure Valley community for coming out, and supporting this wonderful fundraiser. We look forward to doing it again next year!

To Body Wax or Not to Body Wax?

Depending on today’s fashion styles, mini skirts, shorts, and other leg-baring styles call for smooth legs, worthy of baring. Depending on your preferred method of body hair removal, there are a number of treatments to choose from. Shaving and body waxing are two popular methods readily available with products that are easily provided by your Boise hair salon or found at your local drugstore.

Why Body Wax?

No razor burn! Not only is razor burn painful and itchy, it looks terrible! What’s a sexy bikini or leg barring skirt with red, irritated skin? Body waxing is a much better alternative to shaving because it helps eliminate razor burn completely…

Time Saving

These days, who has time to shave or pluck stubborn, unwanted hair? Who has time for it? Plain and simple, body waxing simply saves time. Since the results of body waxing can last up to six weeks, this technique helps to eliminate everyday time-consuming shaving & plucking.

Body Waxing Helps To Reduce Hair Regrowth

Want another perk? Over time, the repetition of body waxing can help hair grow in less and less. Hair papilla is responsible for supplying nutrients to the hair follicle in order for it to grow, and body waxing, over time damages the papilla. Without it, the hair can’t grow!

Reduce the stubble

We all hate the feel of the stubble of hair the day after shaving. Shaving cuts the hair, leaving a blunt tip. Body waxing on the other hand removes it from the root. Compared to shaving, hair that’s waxed grows back with a fine tip that is soft instead of pokey. No more stubble!

Long Lasting Results

Body waxing results last up to a month compared to the chore of shaving daily. Not only that but it grows back finer and softer. While you have to let the hair regrow in order to wax it again, the hair is much less noticeable than if you were to shave.

After Care

After a body wax treatment at your Boise hair salon, your Undone technician recommends wearing loose clothing for a few hours to reduce uncomfortable rubbing on sensitive skin. Try not to take hot showers or baths for at least 24 hours, and avoid loofahs or mesh sponges that are known to harbor bacteria that are known to cause unwanted breakouts. Keep in mind, its not uncommon to have a break out after your first waxing session. Regular body waxing at 4 to 6 week intervals will help provide you with smoother results, and less ingrown hairs!
