Boise Hair Salon Tips: Protecting Your Hair During the Winter Months Ahead

Now that winter is upon us, and it’s starting to get colder by the day, it’s time to start thinking about ways to protect our hair from the damage the frigid elements can cause. Keep in mind the cold winter air lacks moisture making your hair and scalp more sensitive, and prone to dry out that can lead to unwanted breakage.

Below are some helpful Boise hair salon tips for protecting your hair during the winter months ahead:

  1. Wearing a hat is an easy way to protect your hair from wind, rain and snow.
  2. In order to combat static, your Boise hair salon stylist recommends using a good heat styling product for blow-drying. Infusion treatments can be used on wet hair before using a blow-dryer and oil treatments are great to be used before and after styling.
  3. During the winter months, your Boise hair salon stylist wants you to know that it’s important to treat your hair once a week to a deep conditioning treatment. This will help to replenish lost moisture, which tends to be depleted from things like dry heat caused by your furnace/heating system as it treats the cold winter air before it gets circulated throughout your home.
  4. Try not to wash your hair as often. Your Boise hair salon stylist recommends washing only 2 -3 times a week. This helps to prevent your hair from drying out. Its also very important to dry your hair before leaving the house. Not only will it help to prevent you from catching a cold but the moisture in your hair combined with the cold air can cause your hair to become dry and brittle.
  5. Maintaining regular tims at your Boise hair salon is a great way to keep your hair healthy during the winter months. Your stylist at Undone Salon recommends getting a trim every 6 – 8 weeks (.25 – .5 inches) to help reduce the chance of dry, splitting ends
  6. Another unexpected secret to maintaining healthy hair during the winter is to invest in a humidifier. While we all tend to think humidity causes frizzy hair, the dry air your furnace/heating system produces causes your hair to dry out as well. A humidifier will add just the right amount of humidity into your home keeping your hair and skin healthy.

What You Need to Know About Boise Hair Salon Diversion Products

What are Boise hair salon diversion products??

Many people are not aware of Boise hair salon diversion products. However, you’ve probably witnessed examples of diversion many times. Boise hair salon diversion products are salon products that end up getting sold in “unauthorized” places. For example Redken products are only sold exclusively in authorized salons. However, you might just come across a few bottles in your local supermarket or drugstore. Boise hair salon professional products that you find outside of an authorized retailer are considered to be “diverted.”

While you can certainly buy something that looks like many of the same products we have at unDONE Salon at your local discount or grocery store, more than likely they’re not the real deal…

Why Boise hair salon diversion products are bad.

Boise hair salon diversion products can be counterfeit, diluted formulas, or even old, expired formulas that may not be safe to use. Many Boise hair salon products include in their advertising that only genuine products are guaranteed in salons. This means that if you buy name brand Boise hair salon products in a supermarket or any other outlet other than a salon, we cannot guarantee they are authentic or safe.

The problem with big chains, including places you normally shop at like Target or CVC that seem like they carry legit Boise hair salon products is that they’re not authorized to carry these brands, hence the term “diversion”.

Are you in danger?

It’s possible. Contaminated or counterfeit Boise hair salon products can cause irritation or even infection. What happens in these types of “grey market” situations is that big chains will buy Boise hair salon products from legitimate distributors, then set them aside in a warehouse for years until the bar-code expires so they can’t be tracked. During this time, not only does the barcode expire but so does the the product.

Stay Informed…

While Boise hair salon diversion products remain a hot topic in the salon industry, diverters keep changing their tactics so that manufacturers have to continue to design more effective and sophisticated anti-diversion tools. Everyone who works or takes part in this dynamic industry (especially YOU as a consumer) should stay informed about these issues in order to protect the overall health and well-being of the professional beauty industry.

2015 Vivid Haircolor Trends

As a popular new trend that started this summer, vivid haircolor has been making a strong debut at your Boise hair salon for both the young and young at heart. Not only are celebrities showing of some amazing color combinations, but people everywhere are rocking every color of the rainbow!

Remember the days when your haircolor options were either blonde, brunette, or red? Well, those days are long gone, and your Boise hair salon has been busy keeping up with the vivid haircolor boom as more colors are being added to the palette.

What’s great about it, is that the growing vivid haircolor trend is allowing your Boise hair salon stylists to get creative, while making way for a new trend called sand art hair. Instead of just one vivid haircolor covering the whole head, individual strands of hair are different colors. One strand may actually even have two, three, four, or five different colors on it! It’s like looking at sand art where you don’t know where one thing starts and the next thing stops with a variety of colors that seem to spill over each other.

And if sand art hair isn’t something you’re brave enough to try but still want to turn heads, maybe you might just want to try only a streak of vivid haircolor, or you’re brave enough to try a full head! All you have to do is pick your favorite color!

To keep up with the demand, Boise hair salon stylists everywhere have been booking vivid haircolor appointments with clients of all ages like crazy. There are just so many different ways to play around with it, and the vivid haircolor trend shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

Hair is like a canvas, and expressing your inner “my little pony” has never been so much fun. Talk with your Boise hair salon stylists about what vivid haircolor options you’d like to shock the world with. They will help walk you through the process while helping you decide on what haircolor trend will look best on you!

Keeping Up on Your Boise Pedicure During the Winter Months Ahead

With fall in full swing & winter fast approaching we all know that boot season is well on its way to the Treasure Valley. When it’s cold outside it’s very common for us to keep our feet safely hidden & warm, so it’s only natural that a Boise pedicure at unDONE Salon will become less of a priority. However, it’s important to remember what a difference groomed feet can make to your overall happiness.

On that note, your Boise hair salon wants to provide you a few good reasons to keep up with your Boise pedicure during non-sandal season:

A Boise pedicure will help make your life easier in the long run.

It’s no secret that we all delight seeing that pile of grated skin pile up during a Boise pedicure, however, it’s a LOT more effective to simply use a foot file or pumice stone for approximately one minute each day in the shower.

No cringing every time you pull on tights or slip between the sheets

We all know the feeling of dry skin patches on our feet catching on the soft fabric of some of our favorite things. Like nails on a chalkboard, this unsettling sensation can easily be cured with a Boise pedicure.

Self confidence baby!

A Boise pedicure will help you feel like a super-pulled-together girl during your next yoga or other barefoot workout session (even if you still struggle throughout the actual workout)!

You can go cozily barefoot inside your Uggs

Don’t be caught off guard when you enter a house where you are expected to remove your comfy shoes. A Boise pedicure will help eliminate the satisfaction of others judging your heavily chipped black toenail polish!

It’s just plain sexy.

Think about it. Look at the models feet above & face the fact that during the winter you’re about to let your feet become hideous. If you don’t want to invest in a Boise pedicure, you might as well stock up on some granny panties too…

Bonus reason:

As your Boise nail salon, unDONE is a great place to escape and relax when the weather is cold and crappy outside. Not only can you get a Boise manicure & pedicure but a Boise spray tan as well!

DONE Boise Hair Salon & BarkAID founder Patrick Lomantini raised $1005 to support BarkAid for saving homeless animals!

On Sept 17th, 2015 the Boise hair salon stylists at unDone partnered with Patrick Lomantini, founder of BarkAID for $20 haircuts to help raise a total of $1005 for Fuzzy Pawz Rescue – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to finding loving families for homeless dogs and cats in Idaho and Utah.

Below is a brief transcript of the unDONE’s interview with Patrick Lomantini, Boise hair salon stylist Brittney Tetro and the director of Fuzzy Paws, Amy:

Patrick: My name is Patrick Lomantini and we’re in Boise Idaho and I’m at this amazing salon called unDONE Salon and I’m with the amazing Brittney and if it wasn’t for her none of this would have happened, and I’m also with Amy from Fuzzy Paws rescue – the ones who benefited today and I just wanted to take a second to say we had an amazing day in Boise.

This is our 4th national tour and it’s our first time here and we had a great day and did 40 haircuts and raised a lot of money for what they do and we really appreciate what they do for the community here. And I also want to take a second here and say hi to Brittany and ask her how she felt about having this at her Boise hair salon.

Brittney: I couldn’t have been happier with the turnout. It was very good and I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Patrick: Let me tell you something about Brittany. She was fantastic. She kept the flow going and we had a lot of people here and she also took the day off and I was able to use her station and not only was it a selfless act on her but it was fantastic how professional she was and she helped me pick up the slack when I fell behind. So I can’t thank you enough. It was fantastic.

And Amy, how do you feel about the event?

Amy: It was awesome and we had a great time and we can’t thank the ladies at unDONE enough for stepping up when we got a little behind and we’d like to thank you (Patrick) for all your hard work and we can’t wait to do it again next year!

Patrick: Yeah, we had a great day and we just want to tell everybody that Boise, Idaho has it going together & has it going on!

In total, BarkAID has risen over $300,000 in its short existence with Patrick Lomantini and his teams around the United States having performed over 6,000 haircuts. At this time, unDONE couldn’t be prouder to have participated in helping such a good cause and from all of our Boise hair salon stylists we would like to thank the Treasure Valley community for coming out, and supporting this wonderful fundraiser. We look forward to doing it again next year!

Strategies from Your Boise Hair Salon to Reduce Back-to-School Stress

The unDONE Boise hair salon has been super busy helping kids and teens around the Treasure Valley change their look and plan for a new year full of exciting new experiences. But at home, your back-to-school anticipation may not be as exhilarating. In fact, your Boise hair salon stylist understands that this can actually be a highly stressful time for both parents and kids as their carefree summers are replaced by tight schedules…

Below, your Boise hair salon stylist offers the following suggestions as referenced from Modern Salon for both kids and parents hoping to reduce stress levels while coping with the new school year:

  • Breathe deeply—and correctly. When we feel stressed our chests constrict, causing more shallow breathing to occur. Your Boise hair salon stylist suggests learning deep-breathing techniques. Doing so, we activate the “parasympathetic” nervous system, creating a rest-and-digest response.
  • Elevate the feet. Take time to rest and elevate your feet. The rest-and-digest response can also be stimulated this way. Try lying on your back with your legs resting on a chair or against the wall.
  • Think about what you want. Its a known fact that when people are asked about what they want, they simply cannot name a list. The subconscious mind cannot process negatives directly. For example, whenever you think, “I don’t want to stay awake all night,” your brain automatically hears “stay awake all night. So keep in mind that your subconscious mind needs direction, and when you tell your mind exactly what you want, it knows what to do and can do it. In essence, what you think about, you bring about!
  • Broaden your life perspective. Imagine seeing into the future and knowing something good is coming. Your Boise hair salon stylists suggests imagining that you already know that everything will work out in the end. Then think back to your life one year ago and recognize all that you have accomplished in that year. Do you even remember the things that worried you then? Now imagine your life five years from now. How do you see your life differently looking back toward today? The detail of starting a school year seems smaller and more manageable when you visualize the bigger picture of things…

Ombre, Sombre, Balayage & Baby Highlights?

We all know how trends come and go, yet despite the variety of haircolor styles we see now days, many of us are stumped when it comes to understanding what look/technique it is that we want to achieve when visiting our favorite Boise hair salon. Ombré? Sombré? Balayage? Baby highlights? What’s the difference? Below is a basic list of haircolor style definitions for you to understand before making a date with your Boise hair salon stylist:

Foils vs. Balayage
Foils and Balayage are both highlighting techniques that create their own subtle look. Traditional foils for example are known for creating highlights that are uniform and defined. However, Balayage (taken from the French word meaning “to sweep”), is a freehand technique used by your Boise hair salon stylist where swatches of hair are sectioned and hand painted against a backboard with a lightening agent. After the painting is complete, each swatch of hair is then covered in cellophane. The result? Fatter, less symmetrical, random highlights that finish in a casual, beachy look.

Ombré vs. Sombré
Since the demand for dark roots and lighter ends started a few years back, Ombré helps to feature a stark dark-to-light fade. In contrast however, Sombré haircolor features lighter sections up higher while the lower lengths have ribbons of dark for a more gradual transition. The nice thing about both is that each look is perfectly low-maintenance that don’t harbor the need for constant Boise hair salon touch-ups since there is no clear demarcation line or regrowth.

Highlights vs. Baby Highlights
Now that we have a better understanding of foils and balayage, do you know that there are also different degrees of highlighting? As opposed to splashlights – that feature sharp flashes of blonde on dark tresses – baby highlights are much finer.

With baby highlights, your Boise hair salon stylist will separate your hair into tiny little sections before haircolor is applied to each group of strands and left for approximately one hour. While baby highlights are a bit more expensive, and time-consuming, you are however left with a more multidimensional, radiant, natural-looking haircolor. Basically, baby highlights help to recreate the look you had when you were just a precious wee-one. Keep in mind however, this technique really only works on blonde hair…

Men’s Hair Grooming Basics

When it comes to male grooming, every gentleman needs a little sculpting here and there. Below are some men’s hair grooming basics every guy needs to apply to their no-fail grooming routine to help turn heads:

*Men’s hair routines differ depending on hair texture and chosen men’s hair cut & style.

STRAIGHT HAIR, WAVY HAIR, & LOOSE CURL PATTERN

Men with these hair types should wash their hair on a daily or every other day basis in order to prevent oil build-up. While it’s been a long-standing tradition to get a men’s hair cut once a month, it all depends on the rate in which your hair grows back, your chosen hairstyle, and budget. Its also important that your Boise hair salon stylist is familiar with cutting your hair so it grows out evenly and looks great for the entire month between cuts.

CURLY HAIR/TIGHT CURL PATTERN

Men with these hair types should generally wash their hair every couple of days or once a week in order to maintain the moisture. Moisturizing shampoos & conditioners are highly recommended. Hair should also be lightly moisturized on a daily basis to keep it from becoming dry and breaking off. The frequency of a men’s hair cut also depends on the hairstyle, budget, and rate at which your hair grows back. Routine men’s hair cuts (every week or every other week) are recommended by your Boise hair salon stylist.

Long Hair

Long hair is back in style and it seems that everyone has taken notice. Remember that just because it’s long hair doesn’t mean it’s healthy hair. Longer hair is prone to dryness so washing your hair every other day will help keep it looking fresh. Use a good conditioner at least three times a week & don’t over-brush. The key to long healthy hair is to keep it hydrated—just as you would your skin. Conditioned hair doesn’t solve all split ends, so visit your Boise hair salon stylist for a trim every month or two.
