How to Maintain a Lasting Boise Manicure Between Salon Visits

When we get our nails done, we want them to last forever. However, there’s nothing more frustrating than having your perfectly polished nails peel or chip a day or two after a Boise manicure. That’s why Yadira “yogi” Ortego, our lead nail technician at unDONE would like to provide you with the following tips to maintaining a lasting Boise manicure between salon visits.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT LENGTH AND SHAPE FOR YOUR NAILS

Depending on your lifestyle, you need to choose the right length and shape for your nails. For active people, long nails would probably be a bad choice. Instead, medium length nails would be a better option. Square nails with rounded, smooth corners are also less likely to snag or hang on things.

BUY THE COLOR YOU USED AT UNDONE SALON

Just in case you do chip a nail, it’s always a good idea to buy the color you choose at unDONE Salon. This will ensure you have the ability to touch things up after your Boise manicure.

APPLY A DAILY TOPCOAT

Applying a daily topcoat is necessary when maintaining a Boise manicure for the long run. Aside from setting the polish, a topcoat adds extra staying power while preventing chips and providing your nails with durability.

PROTECT YOUR HANDS

Never wash your hands immediately after your Boise manicure. Doing so can loosen and smudge your polish. Keep in mind that depending on your polish choice, it can take up to 12 hours for it to completely harden. Instead, make sure you do any cleaning chores ahead of time and do what you can (like wearing gloves) to protect your nails.

AVOID ALCOHOL BASED PRODUCTS

Alcohol-based products like hand sanitizers can be detrimental to your Boise manicure. While hand sanitizer is great for killing germs, it can also eat away at your topcoat, causing your nail polish to fade and dull. Instead, make sure to wash your hands with mild antibacterial soap to avoid germs while preserving your Boise manicure.

KEEP YOUR HANDS & NAILS MOISTURIZED

While it may seem like basic knowledge, it’s important to keep your hands and nails properly moisturized. To preserve and maintain your Boise manicure, use a moisture-rich, hydrating cream and apply a cuticle or vitamin E oil once daily to keep your hands and nails healthy.

Undone Salon

It’s important to care for your nails on a regular basis and maintain them with a Boise manicure. How long your manicure lasts, however, depends on what you do and how well you care for it. At unDONE Salon, our master nail technician “Yogi”  recommends scheduling a Boise manicure every 2-3 weeks to keep your nails looking and feeling their best. However, if you find yourself with an unexpected split, cracked or torn nail, come see us for a needed repair.
