Boise Hair Salon Tips For Plopping Your Curly Hair
Natural curls are both a gift and a curse. Because of this, you need the perfect amount of product and styling to ensure your curls look the way you like them. But wouldn’t it be great if you could get perfect curls every time you wash your hair? With plopping, you can! That’s why the Boise hair salon stylists at unDONE would like to provide you with the following tips for plopping curly hair.
What is Plopping Your Hair?
At unDONE, we love smart, simple beauty hacks. Essentially, plopping your hair is just what it sounds like. After you moisturize your hair with your favorite curly hair product, you just plop your hair down onto a microfiber towel or old t-shirt (long-sleeved) and wrap your hair up and let it dry. This will provide you with a super easy way to get defined, frizz-free curls without the struggle of styling to get the desired effect.
Hair Plopping Tips
1. Choose the right towel
Like we mentioned above, it’s best to use a microfiber towel or an old, long-sleeved t-shirt. However, it’s important to avoid using a traditional terry cloth towel. While absorbent, these towels can remove essential moisture that’s needed to lock in your curls while roughening up the cuticle, resulting in frizz.
2. Shampoo and condition your hair
Once you’ve got your towel or t-shirt ready, it’s best to start with clean, freshly-washed hair. Washing your hair with a salon-grade curl moisturizing shampoo and conditioner will ensure your hair gets a good head start to moisturized, defined curls. Next, gently squeeze your hair to remove any excess water before you plop.
3. Apply a curl-enhancing product
Next, apply the curl-enhancing product that you normally use and evenly distribute it throughout your hair. If you’re not sure what to use, the Boise hair salon stylists at unDONE recommend Davines LOVE CURL Cream that will provide you with defined, soft curls that are moisturized without weighing your hair down.
4. Lay your hair on the towel
Once you’ve applied your favorite curl-enhancing product, lay your towel or t-shirt onto a flat surface and gently lay your head on top of it and wrap it around your hair. Take the time to scrunch and arrange your hair to ensure all your strands are within the fabric before wrapping it.
5. Let your curls dry
Waiting for your hair to air dry is the easiest part. The optimal time is 20-30 minutes or overnight for a quick, easy morning routine. If you start the day plopping your hair, you can do your makeup and get dressed while your curls set up all by themselves.
6. Enjoy perfect curls!
Once your hair has dried, simply unwrap your curls from the towel and gently separate and work through your curls with your fingers. This will provide you with beautiful, frizz-free curls all day since plopping helps lock shiny, defined curls.
