Boise Hair Salon: Summer Skin Care Tips

It’s summer in the Treasure Valley and the sun is shining bright! That’s why the professional estheticians at unDONE Salon would like to provide you with the following Boise hair salon tips to keep your skin glowing, soft, hydrated and well-protected this summer.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Summer swimming, hot weather, and sun exposure can cause our skin to become dry and flaky. Exfoliating on a regular basis will help remove dry, dead skin cells while increasing blood flow, and help you achieve soft, glowing skin. However, it’s important to only exfoliate 2-3 times per week. Over-exfoliation can strip away your skin’s natural oils, which can leave it dry and irritated. Exfoliating will also help prevent unwanted acne and ingrown hairs.

Take Time To Moisturize

While heavy lotions can make your body feel sticky during the summer, your skin still needs hydration. Instead of using thick, rich moisturizers that you would normally use during the fall and winter months, try opting for a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that contains soothing aloe vera during the hot weather. These products will not only help hydrate your skin but prevent clogged pores that can lead to unwanted acne when you sweat. It’s also a good idea to choose a moisturizer that contains SPF to further protect your skin from the summer sun.

Drink Plenty Of Water

Beautiful, hydrated skin starts from the inside out. When you don’t drink enough water, skin can appear dull, making imperfections like wrinkles stand out. Drinking water helps plump skin cells, and smooth fine lines. Even more, your body requires water to function properly. That’s why you should drink up to 8 glasses of water a day. This is especially important during the hot days of summer when you can easily become dehydrated.

Use Sunscreen

The damage caused by the sun is one of the main causes of skin cancer. That’s why it’s important to use the highest rated sunscreen possible and limit the amount of time you are out in the sun. Even if you don’t immediately feel the effects of a sunburn, the damage is already done. While getting a tan is beautiful, harming your skin is not. Luckily, unDONE offers a much safer and healthier alternative when it comes to bronzing your skin for summer without the UV light or dangerous chemicals with our Boise spray tan.

Minimize Your Makeup

During the summer, we sweat, and sweat doesn’t combine well with our foundations, mascaras, powder, and eyeliners. Fortunately, summer is the perfect season for the less is more concept. Instead of heavy foundations, try using a tinted moisturizer that contains SPF. If you can’t live without your eyeliner or mascara, try a waterproof formula to avoid smudging throughout the day. And last but not least, don’t battle unwanted oil with excessive powder. Instead, try refreshing your face using tissue or blotting papers.

unDONE Salon Summer Body Waxing Tips

Believe it or not, it’s just a matter of days before you’ll be relaxing poolside in that new bikini you’ve been waiting all season to wear. The question is, are you ready? At unDONE Salon, we understand that summer means tons of unwanted shaving in order to show off smooth, warm weather skin. That’s why it’s important to get your summer waxing game into full swing! However, if you’re new to the whole body waxing scene, we’ve got a few tips to help you get ready.

First things first…

If you want smooth skin that lasts for weeks without shaving, it’s time to put down the razor. Whether it’s your upper lip, legs or underarms, you’ll no longer be requiring its services. In fact, shaving only complicates the body waxing process. In order for a body waxing treatment to be effective, hair must be at least a quarter of an inch long. You also won’t want to shave in between body waxing appointments either. Shaving makes unwanted hair much courser, making it more difficult to remove by waxing. It also makes the hair more likely to break off, which can lead to painful, ingrown hairs. So before you do anything else, get rid of the razor!

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate…

Second, it’s important to exfoliate the areas of your skin you want waxed before your appointment. In fact, it’s a good idea to make it a normal ritual by exfoliating your skin a few times per week. Exfoliating your skin will remove any dead, surface skin cells that prevent the wax from gripping unwanted hair. Continued exfoliation will also reduce your chances of developing ingrown hairs in between your body waxing appointments.

Schedule routine appointments

Finally, it’s important to schedule routine body waxing appointments to ensure soft, smooth skin all summer long. For those who wax regularly, you can expect to book your appointments approximately 6 weeks apart. If you’re just starting out, you’ll probably need to schedule appointments every 3-4 weeks. The reason being is that over time, you’ll be able to stretch out the time it takes for your hair to regrow because regular body waxing causes it to grow back more slowly. The best part? Each time you wax, the hair grows back finer, making it easier and less painful to remove.
