Powder Brows Vs Microblading

What’s the difference between powder brows and microblading? Both are similar in that they are both methods of semi-permanent makeup. However, there are some key differences. That’s why unDONE Salon would like to discuss the pros and cons of each method so that you can decide which is right for you.

What are Powder Brows?

Powder brows are a form of semi-permanent makeup that uses a machine to deposit pigment into the skin. This method is often used to create a powdery, soft-focus effect. The main benefit of powder brows is that they can be customized to achieve any desired look, from natural and subtle to bold and graphic. They are also less likely to fade over time than microblading.

What is Microblading?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that uses a hand tool to deposit pigment into the skin. This method is often used to create very fine, natural-looking hair strokes. The main benefit of microblading is that it can give a very natural look. However, because the strokes are so fine, they may fade over time more quickly than powder brows.

How Are Both Methods Similar?

Both powder brows and microblading are semi-permanent methods of eyebrow enhancement. This means that the pigment is not actually implanted into the skin but rather deposited in the upper layer of the skin (the epidermis).

Both methods are considered relatively low-maintenance compared to other forms of eyebrow enhancement, such as permanent makeup. They will both require some touch-ups over time but will not need to be completely redone like permanent makeup.

How Are Both Methods Different?

The main difference between powder brows and microblading is in the technique used. Powder brows are done with a machine, while microblading is done by hand.

Powder brows can be customized to achieve any look, from natural and subtle to bold and graphic. Microblading, on the other hand, is better suited for creating very fine, natural-looking hair strokes. Powder brows are less likely to fade over time than microblading because the pigment is deposited deeper into the skin.

Which Method is Less Painful?

Both powder brows and microblading involve some discomfort as the pigment is deposited into the skin. However, microblading may be slightly more painful than powder brows since it is done by hand. Those with very sensitive skin may want to consider powder brows, as they are less likely to cause irritation.

Which Method is More Expensive?

Powder brows and microblading require an initial investment and touch-ups every 1-2 years. However, microblading may be more expensive than powder brows, as it is a more time-consuming process. Powder brows may be a better option for those on a budget, as they will require less maintenance over time.

Which Method Requires More Recovery Time?

Powder brows and microblading both require some recovery time, as the skin needs to heal. However, microblading may require more recovery time than powder brows, as it is a more invasive procedure. Those with sensitive skin may want to consider powder brows, as they will require less recovery time.

How to Choose Between Powder Brows and Microblading

The best way to choose between powder brows and microblading is to consult a professional. They will be able to assess your individual needs and help you decide which method is right for you.

You should also weigh your skin type, style preferences, and lifestyle when making a choice.

  • Skin type: If you have sensitive skin, you may want to consider powder brows.
  • Style preferences: If you want a natural look, microblading may be the best option. If you want a bolder look, powder brows may be better suited for you.
  • Lifestyle: If you have an active lifestyle, powder brows may be a better choice. They are less likely to fade and will require less maintenance over time.

Powder Brows: The Ultimate Salon Guide

A new year is just around the corner. Why not start it off right by feeling fantastic about yourself and stop struggling your eyebrows every day. This is especially true for those who must get up extra early just to draw and fill them in. Even worse, if you are in a hurry, your eyebrows can end up looking uneven, messing up your entire makeup routine. Who wants to deal with this day in and day out?

Well, if you’re looking for a better way to start the upcoming new year and maintain your eyebrows, unDONE Salon offers the ultimate cosmetic solution to make life simple again. That’s why we’d like to provide you with everything you want to know about powder brows.

Powder Brows – A Wonderful Solution

Sick and tired of drawing and filling in your eyebrows? While there are several options out there to choose from, powder brows can provide you with a soft powdery finish that looks like you’ve just powdered your eyebrows (hence the name).

The Difference Between Microblading & Powder Brows

At unDONE Salon, we get asked this question a lot, so here goes:

Microblading

As somewhat of an invasive procedure, microblading is the process of tattooing natural hair strokes onto your eyebrows. This includes the beginning, arch, and tail. This form of permanent makeup is done manually and with a tool called a microblader that consists of a blade formed of tiny needles that cut hair-like strokes into the skin, much like a paper cut. Once this process is complete, a medical-grade pigment is applied to seep into the small, open wounds.

Powder Brows

Powder brows, on the other hand, are achieved using an electric pen with a small needle at the end that isn’t as sharp or pointy as a microblading tool. A trained and certified expert will then use this tool to puncture the skin lightly to deposit medical-grade color on top of your natural brow shape to provide you with an even and equal look. The best part? Powder brows provide you with a natural, more subtle look that just about everyone will love.

Who’s A Good Candidate For Powder Brows?

If you have grown tired of drawing and filling in your eyebrows, you are going to love the powder brow solution. It’s the best treatment option for those who have some hair yet need more color and depth for a fuller effect. Even better, everyone is a potential candidate for powder brows because they don’t hurt as much as brows that are microbladed and can last up to 2-4 years.

The Powder Brows Process

The powder brows process includes several steps to achieving the perfect look:

Consult & Cleaning

At unDONE, our certified powder brow expert, Annie Bradshaw, will talk with you about the look you want to achieve. During this time, we recommend wearing your usual brow makeup. Next, the area around your eyebrows will be thoroughly cleaned.

Numbing

The area around your eyebrows will be covered with a topical anesthetic. This will be left on for approximately 20 minutes to numb the entire area to be treated.

Choosing Your Pigment Color

Together you and our certified powder brow expert will choose the best pigment color for your eyebrows based on your individual hair and skin color.

Measuring & Mapping

The area of your eyebrows will be measured, taking into account your face shape, symmetry, features, etc. An outline will be drawn on, and once approved by you, the application process starts.

Application

Our trained and certified powder brow expert will create natural-looking eyebrows using an electric pen to lightly deposit medical-grade pigment on top of your natural brow shape to provide you with an even and equal look, after which the eyebrow area will be cleaned.

Touch up

Once your powder brows have fully healed, a touch-up appointment will be booked for filling in any gaps where the pigment didn’t take or heal properly.

Powder Brows Aftercare

The powder brow procedure isn’t as painful as microblading. Even more, a trained and certified expert will apply a topical anesthetic to alleviate any discomfort during the process. After the treatment, your brows will look much darker and fuller than normal. Rest assured, however, that your brows will fade to a softer, more natural color after 7-10 days.

Even more, you will be sent home with a list of aftercare instructions along with a specialized cleanser and protective oil to be used on your eyebrows twice a day, starting the same evening as the procedure.

Keep in mind that the healing process for powder brows is different for everyone. Most people experience a little swelling and redness after the procedure, but this should subside within a few days. It’s also important to note that the result will look approximately 50% darker than your desired look. This is completely normal and will lighten within 4-10 days. Your true eyebrow color will be visible within a month after the procedure.

During the healing process, you may also experience a degree of scabbing. This is completely normal, but you must avoid picking at any scabs at all costs as it can create an uneven look. To make the most out of your procedure, it’s important to follow the aftercare process recommended by our powder brow expert along with the following things:

  • Don’t touch the treated area without washing your hands thoroughly. The last thing you want to do is introduce bacteria to the eyebrow area. The same goes for any cotton swabs, Q-tips, or anything else that comes into contact with your brows. You should also make sure to sleep on a clean pillowcase. Our powder brow expert recommends using a silk one.
  • Do not rub, scratch, or pick the healing area. Allow it to flake off on its own so that it doesn’t damage your skin or affect the powder brow results.
  • When you wash your face, always use a gentle, antibacterial soap, and never scrub. Instead, gently cleanse the area and rinse with cool water, and pat dry.
  • Avoid any facial treatments, sun exposure, sweating, hot tubs, or swimming until the area treated is completely healed.

Powder Brow Benefits

Powder brows are the most popular semi-permanent technique in the world because it’s good for all skin types. If you have thin brows or no brows at all due to overplucking or genetics, powder brows will save you time and money to draw and fill in your brows.

Furthermore, you can personalize the look of your eyebrows by making them lighter or darker, depending on your personal preferences. This subtle color transformation will help add depth to your eyebrows while looking natural in the process. Additional benefits include:

  • You receive a long-lasting solution.
  • You get a natural, subtle look without the work.
  • It’s suitable for just about anyone.
  • Ideal solution for thin or blonde brows.
  • Virtually painless with no downtime.
  • Brows stand up to high heat.
  • Suitable for those with oily skin.

What You Should Know Before Treatment

Preparing for a powder brow treatment doesn’t start when you enter our salon. Instead, you should prepare ahead of time knowing the following things:

  • On the day of your appointment, make sure to wear your normal makeup and bring photos of the look you want to achieve.
  • Do not drink caffeine or alcohol at least 48 hours prior to the procedure.
  • Avoid waxing, tanning, or tinting your eyebrow area for at least three days before your appointment.
  • Avoid any anti-aging treatments, such as microdermabrasion, lasers, chemical peels, or facials, at least two weeks before your appointment.
  • Do not get any facial injections at least one month prior to the procedure.

Why Powder Brows Are Better Than Microblading

Permanent makeup has become very popular these days due to the ease it gives women of not having to draw or fill in their eyebrows every day. This is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic when our eyes and brows are often the only thing people see due to wearing masks.

While microblading has been trending all over the internet and social media, there’s a new, less invasive procedure available to create a natural, semi-permanent look – powder brows. But what makes powder brows better than microblading? At unDONE Salon, we get asked this question a lot. That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following benefits of powder brows and what sets this technique apart from microblading.

Less Invasive

Powder brows are applied to the skin using a small handheld wand that disperses extremely fine pigment into and across your skin using an airbrush-shading technique. Microblading, on the other hand, uses a different type of handheld tool that creates small cuts into the skin with a sharp blade. This technique’s repeated strokes are much more invasive because they can quickly cause trauma to the skin as strokes are often repeated into the same spots.

Less Pain

Powder brows are less painful due to the technique applied, which results in less trauma to the skin vs. microblading. Because microblading involves cutting into the skin, there is also more bleeding involved. With powder brows, there is minimal pain or bleeding during the procedure. In fact, most of our clients at unDONE report that the procedure feels more like an electric toothbrush being pressed against their skin or rapid tweezing.

Longer Lasting

How long microblading or powder brows last depend on your skin type and individual lifestyle. However, most powder brow treatments using high-quality pigments typically last 1-2 years. Microblading, however, often requires more frequent touch-ups, resulting in long-term wear and tear to the skin, which can cause permanent scarring. That’s why it’s important to choose the less invasive method of powder brows to save your skin’s integrity.

Good For All Skin Types

No matter your skin type, powder brows are a wonderful option compared to microblading, which isn’t suitable for those with oily skin. Why? People with oily skin often require more microblading touch-ups, resulting in more trauma to the skin.

Natural Looking

While powder brows provide you with a more “filled-in” look immediately after treatment, the results after the healing process appear as a softly shaded brow pencil. In fact, powder brows will fade up to 30%, leaving you with a soft, natural look and shape that our clients love.

Top Reasons To Get Powder Brows

Have you been considering the semi-permanent makeup solution of powder brows but are still on the fence? While there are always reasons not to do something, you can drive yourself crazy, weighing the pros and cons. That’s why unDONE Salon would like to help you make the best decision by providing you with the top five reasons you should get powder brows!

Your Lifestyle

Maybe you love working out but are sick of looking like your eyebrows are running off your face. Or perhaps your eyebrows are thinner than you’d like them to be. Either way, we all want to look our best – that’s why we wear makeup! However, if you live an active lifestyle, the last thing you have time for is worrying about your eyebrows 24/7. That’s what makes powder brows so amazing. As a semi-permanent makeup solution, you won’t have to worry about your makeup rubbing or melting off, and you won’t have to draw and fill in your eyebrows every day!

You Overplucked

If you grew up in the 90s, you can probably relate to this problem. Millennials today don’t follow the same razor-thin trends we did to look like Gwen Stefani, Pam Anderson, or the Spice Girls. If you over-plucked your eyebrows in your youth, we now have solutions to fix the mistakes of the past. If you are tired of drawing and filling in your eyebrows because they never grew back, powder brows are an excellent option to consider. At unDONE, our trained and certified brow expert can help you create natural-looking eyebrows that complement and balance your features.

Appear More Youthful

EVERYONE looks better with fuller eyebrows. When we reminisce of how we looked in the past, it’s usually a thinner body frame and a fuller browed face. The older we get, the more weight we put on, and our hair naturally starts to thin. When done correctly (following your natural facial structure) powder brows will instantly make you look younger, because you’ll have fuller eyebrows!

A Non-Surgical Eye Lift

Powder brows not only help you look youthful but will make you look more awake, alert, and refreshed without invasive surgery! Like we mentioned above, our trained and certified brow expert can help you create natural-looking eyebrows that accentuate your eyes and balance your features without a surgical eye lift!

Time-Saving Convenience

At unDONE, we’re sure you’re super busy throughout the day, just like us. And once time is gone, it’s gone for good. That’s why, in our opinion, anything you can do to save time is definitely worth it. If you find yourself spending too much time doing your makeup every day or if you struggle trying to draw balanced, symmetrical eyebrows, powder brows are an excellent option to save time and your sanity.

Why Brows Are More Than Just A Beauty Trend

It’s 2019, and we all know the importance of good eyebrows. For a lot of us, leaving the house without drawing on and filling in our eyebrows is unthinkable. Furthermore, your eyebrows are one of the most significant features on your face. While you might think it’s your lips, eyes, or button nose, science actually says it’s your eyebrows. Why? Eyebrows help you express your emotions and support facial recognition.

That’s why unDONE Salon would like to talk about eyebrows in today’s blog post and why they are more than just a beauty trend.

The Perception Of Eyebrows

Have you ever met someone who looks like they are perpetually surprised or angry all the time? The reason why is often due to an unflattering eyebrow shape that has too much or too little of an arch. With the proper semi-permanent application of powder brows, however, you won’t have to worry about these self-inflicted problems of drawing on or over-plucking your eyebrows again.

Aside from better framing your eyes, well-groomed brows, especially ones that have been specifically designed for you by an expert technician, have many significant perks. In fact, full brows with a soft arch are not only aesthetically pleasing but can actually make you appear much younger.

Another way that professionally applied powder brows can impact your overall appearance is that they can be placed to help balance your face. With the exception of Angelina Jolie, no human face is perfectly symmetrical. Even worse, our facial symmetry is closely associated with how attractive we are perceived by others. By getting the semi-permanent technique of powder brows to increase the symmetry of your face, you can appear instantly more youthful, balanced, and beautiful.

Helping Our Clients Look & Feel Beautiful

At unDONE, the ability to make someone look and feel beautiful is important to us. This is especially true for Annie Bradshaw, our trained and certified semi-permanent makeup technician who finds her ability to help clients with their eyebrows extremely rewarding.

Having the skills and abilities of being a semi-permanent makeup artist allows her to not only make someone physically look good by creating beautiful eyebrows, she is able to make them feel good, more confident, happier, and attractive. Who would have thought the two little eyebrows on your face held so much power?

Powder Brows Boise

Over the past few decades, our eyebrows have been through a lot. However, it’s important to realize that they are much more than just a changing beauty trend. If you want to get the best, most flattering eyebrows of your life, contact our semi-permanent makeup artist Annie Bradshaw at (208) 589-1501. She would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have via text or phone call. Even more, you can view some of her most recent work below or on Facebook and Instagram. Powder Brows Boise: Look Younger With A Simple Makeup Solution

Powder Brows Boise

As we get older, most of us search for ways to maintain our youthful appearance. However, you don’t have to take drastic measures just to look younger. Instead, a properly shaped brow can help open your entire eye area while working to improve the overall symmetry of your face. In fact, most people in the Treasure Valley don’t realize how much of a boost powder brows will make when it comes to taking years off your look.

How Your Eyebrows Can Age You

Depending on the era you grew up in, overly plucked, thinly waxed or just plain sparse eyebrows can make you look tired and aged. Even worse, the wrong shape of brow can leave you looking angry, mad, surprised, or scared. Your eyebrows can also affect the appearance of your nose, making it look larger when they are placed too far apart. You also don’t want to weigh down the look of your eyes if you draw them in too low. Last but not least, it’s important to keep in mind that your eyebrows change color as you get older to a lighter blonde or gray. Even light colored eyebrows can blend into your face and look sparse – even if they’re not.

What You Should Be Aiming For

What you should be aiming for are eyebrows that make you appear fresh, young, and more attractive. Ideally, your eyebrows should start at the bridge of your nose. From there, your eyebrow should gradually incline toward your arch. Your brow should reach its highest arch about ⅔ of the way out. Keep in mind, you should never attempt a center arch. Doing so will result in rainbow shaped eyebrows and all the surprised and scared expressions that go along with it. Last but not least, the tail should end in a tapered point no lower than where your eyebrow begins.

Choose Semi-Permanent Powder Brows

So what can you do about your eyebrows if they aren’t as thick as you want or you’re tired of dealing with the hassle of drawing and filling them in every day? Kick your eyebrows into high gear with semi-permanent powder brows at unDONE Salon. Our trained and certified powder brow expert, Annie Bradshaw can help you create natural looking eyebrows using an electric pen to lightly to deposit medical-grade color on top of your natural brow shape to provide you with an even and equal look.

While makeup can help you achieve your ideal eyebrow, it gets expensive and takes up too much time in the morning. Furthermore, tattooed eyebrows look unnatural and harsh. With semi-permanent powdered brows, you’ll have more natural looking eyebrows all the time without the worry of smudging or smearing. The best part? After a professional touch up 4-6 weeks after your initial treatment, you will only need to have your eyebrows touched up once a year. At that point, you’ll have the option of redesigning your brows based on any slight change in your appearance.

Semi-permanent powder brows create a unique effect that looks just like your real hair. At unDONE, our powder brow expert will blend your color and apply that color in thin layers into the top layer of your skin. The pigment and method used will emulate the look of real hair and you won’t have any scarring or downtime. With powder brows, you’ll get picture perfect eyebrows just 7-10 days after they fade to a softer, more natural color that will make you look younger and more effortlessly put together.

unDONE Salon

Not all of us are blessed with perfect eyebrows. However, technology and advancements in permanent makeup can help you achieve a look that will help you look and feel your very best.
