Top 4 Reasons You Should Pre-Book An Appointment at unDONE Salon

Between work, family, and personal obligations, schedules can be tough. Even more, fitting everything in can sometimes seem impossible. What if we told you we could help take some of the load off your shoulders? This week’s blog is something that’s very near and dear to our hearts at unDONE Salon. Pre-booking your hair appointments! Although many of our clients do pre-book, some don’t because they don’t understand all the amazing benefits. That’s why we’d like to provide you with top 4 reasons you should pre-book from now on!

Your Time is Valuable

With so many things to do, pre-booking your hair appointment will cross one thing off your important list of things to do. When you book your next appointment before leaving our salon, you will get your choice of date and time. Not only will this help make scheduling easier for you but for your Boise hair salon stylist as well. When your stylist is present while you’re booking they can help dedicate the right amount of time depending on your personal cut, color, and style needs.

Busy Spring Season

Spring is often a busy season for many hairstylists because people are planning ahead for important events and holidays. From spring break vacations to Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, and the 4th of July, stylists try to make themselves as available as possible but it’s still hard. Plus, you’re going to want to look your best at all times. Since you’ve got so many things going on this spring, the last thing you want to be concerned about is maintaining your cut or hair color. That’s why it’s important to get on our books as soon as possible so your not dealing with faded color or grown out hair.

Maintain Your Style

Maintaining your style is super important. When you pre-book your Boise hair salon appointment, you’re allowing your stylist to schedule your appointment as they see fit. As stylists, we can determine how fast your hair is growing or when you’ll need a color touch up in order to predict when your next appointment should be. This will save both of us from a huge headache down the road. When you pre-book an appointment, neither of us has to worry about your hair getting too long, full, or rooty. It will also be easier for you to style and maintain between appointments.

Budget Accordingly

From fashion hair colors to Balayage to Ombre, maintaining your hair color can come at a cost. When you pre-book your appointment, you’ll provide yourself with plenty of time to budget and save for your next service. A $100 dollar hair service won’t seem so scary when you stretch it out over a period of 6 weeks. When you do the math it comes down to saving a little over $16 dollars a week. All you have to do is cut back on your morning coffee and your hair is all paid for!

unDONE Salon

If you’re not accustomed to pre-booking, unDONE Salon invites you to give it a try. If you would like to schedule your initial appointment, give us a call at (208) 287-2010 and be ahead of the game. You can even schedule an appointment date/time online by clicking here. Alternatively, the next time you visit us, ask your Boise hair salon stylist for advice on when to pre-book and experience all the benefits it offers. See you soon!

Boise Hair Salon: What You Need To Know About Color Correction

Is your current hair color already out of style? Do you regret copying the hair color of your favorite celeb? Or did an experiment going from brunette to blonde fail miserably and now you have Oompa Loompa hair? It doesn’t matter if you dyed your hair at home or chose the highest priced hair salon in Boise, hair color results can sometimes take a weird detour and come out in any hue (except the one you anticipated).

If this has happened to you, don’t panic. unDONE Salon can provide you with a hair color correction treatment. Our dedicated team of Boise hair salon stylists have seen it all and can help you recover from any hair color disaster.

What is a Hair Color Correction Service?

Color correction is a term that gets thrown around a lot but is often misunderstood. To put it simply, a color correction is any situation where previously colored hair is being colored. It’s also important to understand that once hair is colored, the pigment stays within the hair strand until it either grows out or gets cut off. So yes, if you’ve ever changed hair colors, almost everyone (except those with virgin hair) have had some sort of color correction.

What Happens During a Color Correction Treatment?

Color correction is a process that usually involves several steps. It also requires you to be honest about your color history with your Boise hair salon stylist.

During a consultation, your stylist will make sure your hair is healthy and strong enough to withstand the color correction process. Over-processed hair can cause it to become weak and damaged which results in a loss of elasticity and porosity which causes color to fade faster than normal. We may also take a couple of test strands —  small amounts of hair that will be used to correctly formulate your hair color.

While color corrections can sometimes be done in one day, others require multiple hair color services over a period of time. To achieve your desired color there are a variety of factors your Boise hair salon stylist must consider. This includes your current color, desired color, your hair’s porosity and how much time was booked for the service —  which can sometimes take up a whole day. While you may not leave unDONE Salon with your desired hair color in one single sitting, it’s to prevent damage while giving your hair time to recover from the lightening process rather than trying to fit it all in one sitting.

  • When going from dark to light, your Boise hair salon stylist will use a lightener (a salon-grade form of bleach). This will de-color your hair before another color or toner is used to add color back into your hair.
  • When going from light to dark, hair must be filled with an in-between color before the desired hair color is achieved. This prevents your hair color from becoming muddy or green.

While the hair color correction process can seem overwhelming, the team at unDONE Salon can help you achieve amazing results anytime you need to fix or want to change your look. Our Boise hair salon stylists know the correct way to color your hair without damaging it in the process. No matter what shade or tint you want, we can customize a hair color just for you. We promise personalized results every time!

Preventing Hair Color Issues

It’s important to prevent hair color issues by making sure you are working with an experienced Boise hair salon stylist. Never be afraid to ask questions and be specific about the results you’re looking to achieve. If we think a color or technique is a bad idea, it’s probably best to listen to us. Hair can only take so much. That’s why you should always think carefully before going back and forth between light and dark hair colors.

At unDONE Salon, our Boise hair salon stylists are highly skilled in the art of color and trained in all of the latest hair trends and techniques in the industry. From highlights and lowlights to full-color correction, we offer a variety of hair color services to create beautiful, vibrant color. We also only use the highest quality salon formulas to protect the health and integrity of your hair. Let us help you choose the perfect shade to enhance your features and compliment your style!

Boise Hair Salon Tips For Growing Longer, Stronger Hair

Hairstyles come and go over time. Long hair, however, has maintained its popularity for centuries. That’s why hair extensions have become all the rage over the past decade. While growing your hair out takes time and patience (½ “ on a monthly basis), you can help boost the process with the following Boise hair salon tips for growing longer, stronger hair.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Vitamin deficiencies are known to cause hair loss. However, that doesn’t mean you need to buy special supplements to grow out your hair. Instead, it’s important to maintain a healthy diet to make sure you are getting all the essential vitamins your body needs while strengthening your hair in the process. If you do decide to take a supplement, be sure to check with your doctor about which ones are right for you.

Care For Your Scalp

It’s important to care for your scalp if you’re trying to grow out your hair. It needs to be free of residue and protected from the sun. Maintain a healthy scalp by talking to your Boise hair salon stylist about what products they suggest to detoxify your scalp and keep it healthy for hair growth.

Condition, Condition, Condition…

While conditioner doesn’t have anything to do with growing your hair out, it will, however, contribute to the overall health of your hair. Not only will it boost shine while improving overall texture and flexibility, it also hydrates your hair while protecting it from damage and everyday elements.

Trim Regularly

What’s the point of growing your hair out if it looks terrible? Trimming your hair is necessary for maintaining healthy, beautiful hair. While it doesn’t have anything to do with the actual growth process, it does, however, have everything to do with preventing split ends and breakage. When the ends of your hair are properly maintained, the overall growth of your hair is maintained.

Be Gentle With Wet Hair

Hair is 50% more susceptible to damage when it is wet. That’s why it’s crucial to care for it after washing. Always use a salon-grade conditioner and work through any tangles with a wide-toothed comb when wet. Also, talk with your Boise hair salon stylist about what products they suggest to help seal in moisture while adding an extra layer of protection. When you do brush, make sure to start at the ends and work your way up to prevent breakage.

Practice A Little Patience

When growing out your hair, it’s important not to get discouraged. Hair growth takes time and patience. Be upfront with your Boise hair salon stylist about your overall goals so he or she can help you attain them. Also, treat your hair with respect. Take the time to be gentle and pamper it with the best hair salon products to preserve and protect it.

unDONE Salon

At unDONE Salon, we are here to help keep your hair strong, healthy and beautiful. Our Boise hair salon stylists are experienced and eager to work with you and help you avoid breakage while growing it out to the length you want to achieve.

Haircolor, Boise hair salon, Undone Salon, Fashion Hair Color

Boise Hair Salon Tips For Maintaining Fashion Hair Colors

Whether their bright and bold or soft and subtle, fashion haircolors are an awesome way to express yourself. However, they can also be high maintenance. The most obvious maintenance is the constant battle against fading. While it’s inevitable that you’ll have to visit your Boise hair salon stylist at unDONE for color touch-ups, there are steps you can take to prevent early fading while prolong your fashion haircolor in the process.

Keep Your Hair Healthy

First and foremost, you need to keep your hair healthy. Damaged hair simply won’t hold color the same way healthy hair will. While lightening your hair to achieve your fashion haircolor may seem counterintuitive, it’s important to consult with a professional. Keep in mind that if you have dark hair and want to go a particular shade of pink or blue, it’s going to take a lot of love and work to achieve which can result in damage if not properly lightened the right way. Your Boise hair salon stylist will work with you to limit the damage by recommending certain products and services to maintain healthy hair before and after your haircolor transformation.

Use Only High-Quality Haircolor

Not all haircolor products are created equal. While the images on a box of haircolor may look lovely and promise wonderful results, it’s not uncommon for your hair to come out all weird and splotchy. That’s because box haircolor cannot provide an even application that makes up a well-balanced look. At unDONE Salon, we only use high-quality, salon-grade haircolor products that won’t damage your hair or irritate your scalp. We also customize each service using up to 10 different colors to achieve the fashion haircolor you’re aiming for.

Avoid Hot Water & Styling Tools

Third, it’s important to wash less and to avoid hot water when shampooing your hair. Instead, always rinse with cold water after every wash. You’ll also want to cut down on your use of hot styling tools as heat opens up the hair’s cuticle, allowing pigments to fade. If you must, make sure to talk to your Boise hair salon stylist about what products they suggest to protect your haircolor. Also, when you do style your hair, make sure to use your tools on the lowest heat setting. While it may take longer to style your hair, the sacrifice is worth it when it comes to maintaining your fashion haircolor.

Use Only Salon-Grade Hair Care Products

Last but not least, always use, high-quality, salon-grade shampoo and conditioner. Hair care options you find at your local grocery store contain harsh sulfates, parabens, and alcohol that strip your haircolor while damaging it in the process. Talk with your Boise hair salon about the products they suggest based on your hair type and color. Also, keep in mind that fashion haircolors aren’t designed to last. That’s why you need to visit unDONE Salon to maintain the look you want.

unDONE Salon

At unDONE Salon, we love doing fun, creative things to our client’s hair! We just want you to understand the process and upkeep of maintaining the look you pay for. Boise Hair Salon Hacks That Really Work

We all love a good pamper session. Not only does it feel good to treat yourself at your favorite Boise hair salon but you walk out feeling like a million bucks with healthy, professionally styled hair. While we would all love to visit the salon every day, most of us can’t afford that kind of luxury. Instead, we have to find other low-cost solutions to maintain our hair in between visits. That’s why the stylists at unDONE Salon have put together a few hair salon hacks that really work.

Dry Shampoo + Bobby Pin = Ultimate Hold

Boise hair salon stylists use bobby pins for all sorts of wonderful reasons. If you want professional hold, spray a little dry shampoo on a bobby pin before sliding it into place. The powdery texture of the dry shampoo will add more grip to the bobby pin, providing you with ultimate hold.

Hair Spray + Toothbrush = No Flyaways

Tired of all your little “baby” hairs sticking out of your perfectly styled hair? For a fast, easy fix, simply use a toothbrush and a little hairspray to brush those little hairs into place. Don’t have a spare toothbrush? An old mascara wand works just as good.

Deep Conditioner + Humidifier = Moisturized Winter Hair

During the winter, dry hair is a common problem caused by the dry, heated air circulating throughout our homes. By adding a little moisture back into the air with a humidifier, your hair will absorb what it needs. It’s also helpful to add a deep conditioning treatment to your weekly ritual to seal in moisture while reducing frizz in the process.

Wide-Toothed Comb + Old Cotton T-Shirt = Frizz-Free Hair

If frizz-free hair is what you’re after, toss the towel after you wash your hair. Instead, use an old cotton t-shirt to wrap your hair. Most towels rough up your hair causing frizz. To combat frizz even further, use a wide-toothed comb to take out any tangles before you brush it.

Leave-In Conditioner = Swim Proof Hair

If you spend a lot of time in the pool, coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner before you hit the water. Doing so will protect your hair from absorbing excess chlorine or salt that can dry out your hair. Even better, this hair hack will help maintain your hair color longer.

unDONE Salon

While these hair hacks will provide you with a variety of benefits, it’s important to book an appointment at unDONE and let our Boise hair salon stylists provide you with professional haircare and individual based advice. If you have a hair question or need a new cut or color, contact us today at (208) 287-2010 or schedule online today!

Boise Hair Salon: How to Maintain Hair Between Washes

The cold winter air lacks moisture making your scalp sensitive and hair dehydrated which can add to the chance of breakage. That’s why it’s important to wash your hair less (every few days) to prevent irritation and keep it from drying out. But how do you pull off lived-in hair? At unDONE Salon, our Boise hair salon stylists have put together the following tips to successfully skip the shampoo.

When You Wash…

When you wash, always use a high-quality, salon shampoo recommended by your Boise hair salon stylist. Typical drugstore shampoos are not able to give you the same clean without stripping your hair of essential oils which can lead to the over-production of bad oils. Not only that but quality, salon products last longer and have concentrated ingredients specific for your hair type.

Use Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a fast-drying powder spray that provides a water-free option for cleansing your hair between washes. Dry shampoo works by absorbing excess sebum and other oils from your roots while refreshing your hair and making it smell great. Once you apply dry shampoo you can then blow dry your hair to give it the “just-styled” look you, love.

Use Hair Products Wisely

Most people over-use hair products. Instead of using a pea-sized amount, they end up using a palmful. The problem here, however, is that hair products can contribute to unwanted greasiness. If you’re trying to prolong a hair wash, you may want to skip greasy hair serums altogether and be careful with the amount of straightening balms, volumizing mousses and curl-defining sprays you use.

If You Need To, You Can Rinse Your Hair

If you can’t imagine not washing your hair after a hard workout, you can always rinse without shampooing. A cool, water-only rinse helps to remove salt and sweat without stripping your hair of its natural oils. Keep in mind, however, it’s also a good idea to invest in a good shower cap.

Don’t Skip The Styling

Washing less doesn’t mean you get a free pass when it comes to styling your hair. You don’t want to go to work every day with the imprint of the previous nights sleep over. This is especially true since you only have to invest half the time you would normally spend washing, drying, and styling your hair. So plug in that curling iron or flat iron! You can, however, always pull off a messy half-up do, braid or bun for a quick style option.

Boise Hair Salon Tips: How to Clean Your Styling Tools

As any Boise hair salon stylist will tell you, clean styling tools not only work better, they are easier to use and better on your hair. Styling tools and hair brushes collect hair and product buildup on a regular basis. If they get overly matted or coated with styling products, they won’t work like they should and can leave old residue in your hair. That’s why it’s important to keep your styling tools clean and performing their best to keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful.

Hair Brushes & Combs

From hairspray to scalp oils, your hairbrush collects a variety of residues, germs, and other random particles. You don’t want to brush all that gunk onto your freshly washed hair! That’s why it’s important to clean your brush and combs at least once a week.

  • To clean a hairbrush, use a pair of scissors to lift away and cut away hair from the base.

  • Once you’ve removed as much hair as possible, run your brush under warm water and apply some clarifying shampoo to the bristles and base.

  • Next, use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the base and bristles to eliminate any built-up hair product.

  • Once your brush has been scrubbed clean, rinse it with warm water before patting it dry with a towel. Allow your brush to finish air-drying overnight.

*Combs don’t catch as much hair as brushes but they do build up with styling products. Just follow the same cleaning process found above for any comb type.

Curling Irons & Flat Irons

Sticky product buildup on your curling and flat irons can not only burn your hair, it can cause unwanted bad hair days. That’s why it’s important to keep your hot tools in tip-top condition by keeping them clean of unwanted residue.

  • When cleaning your curling or flat irons, it’s important to make sure they are unplugged and completely cool to the touch.

  • Use a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol to wipe away any built-up styling product from the barrel or flat of the iron.

  • Next, use a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to wipe away any trapped residue from the tiny crevices of your styling tool.

  • To finish, wipe down all the surfaces of your curling or flat iron down with a clean, slightly damp cloth, and allow to air-dry.

Hair Dryers

Clogged, hair dryer filters is something most people are guilty of. Unfortunately, lint and dirt block the ventilation needed for it to work properly. That’s why it’s important to clean the filter regularly to keep your hair dryer working properly.

  • First, make sure your hair dryer is unplugged and locate the air vent on the back or side.

  • Remove the vent cover to get to the filter.

  • Using a toothpick or tweezers, remove any large pieces of lint from the filter.

  • Next, scrub away any leftover dust using a dry toothbrush.

  • Replace the filter and vent cover. Then plug the hair dryer in and let it blow for a few seconds.

unDONE Salon

Just like your hair, the styling tools you use accumulate oil, and product build-up. That’s why it’s important to keep them clean and working their best. How often you clean them also depends on how much you use them. A good rule of thumb is to clean your brush and combs weekly and every other week for your hot styling tools.

For additional Boise hair styling tips, schedule an appointment at unDONE. Our stylists would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have while providing you with beautiful, healthy hair in the process. Contact us at (208) 287-2010 today!

Boise hair salon, Winter Static, Undone Salon

Boise Hair Salon Tips For Fighting Winter Static

Earlier this month we blogged about Winter Hair Care Tips. Why? Because dry hair, frizz, and unwanted static are common complaints we often hear of during the winter months. During this time of year, people often forget to protect their hair from the harsh elements and the drying effects of indoor heat. However, there’s no reason to feel the winter blues due to bad hair days! At unDONE Salon, our Boise hair salon stylists have put together some great tips to help you keep your lovely locks looking their best.

Replenish Lost Oils & Lock in Moisture

During the winter, it’s especially important to deep condition your hair weekly. This doesn’t mean leaving your normal conditioner in longer. Deep conditioners are designed to penetrate your hair deeper, delivering nutrients to the shaft while locking in moisture.

Boise Hair Salon Tip: Consult with your unDONE Stylist to determine what kind of deep conditioner will work best for your hair type.

Hydrate When You Wash

During the summer, you often require clarifying shampoo to rid your hair of chlorine and mineral buildup. In the winter, however, you need as much moisture as you can possibly get to combat static and frizz. That’s why it’s important to choose a hydrating shampoo for your winter hair care.

Boise Hair Salon Tip: Over-washing can actually strip your hair and scalp of essential oils drying it out in the process. Try not to wash your hair as often as you did during the hot summer months.

Don’t Over Dry Your Hair

During the winter it’s important to avoid unnecessary heat. Try using your blow dryer and other styling tools on their lowest setting and using a thermal protectant to reduce moisture loss and protect hair from damage.

Boise Hair Salon Tip: If you’re a flat iron diva, you may want to visit unDONE Salon for a smoothing treatment. Keratin smoothing treatments use keratin to fill in gaps in your hair’s cuticle. This will help strengthen hair while reducing frizz and boosting shine in the process.

Combat Static With Dryer Sheets

While dryer sheets are meant to get the static out of your clothing, they can equally work their magic on your hair when you’re in a pinch. Simply swipe your hair with a dryer sheet to help reduce unwanted static.

Boise Hair Salon Tip: To help combat static, keep a small packet of dryer sheets in your bathroom or rub a sheet through your hair in the morning as part of your daily routine.
