A Boise Hair Salon Guide to Hand-Tied Extensions

Over the years, hair extensions have come a long way when it comes to adding confidence while transforming the volume and length of your hair. But when it comes down to 2019, there’s a wonderful, new option you can find at your local Boise hair salon.

At unDONE, we are all about keeping up with current trends, which is why we are excited to provide our clients with hand-tied hair extensions. Hand-tied hair extensions offer the most natural-looking, damage-free method available. That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following guide to help you understand what you can expect from this wonderful, new technique.

What Are Hand-Tied Extensions?

At unDONE, an experienced technician will individually hand-tie your hair onto a hand-sewn weft. This close attention to detail ensures your hair is strongly secured and won’t shed. Thinner, flatter, and more flexible in design compared to machine-tied wefts, hand-tied extensions lay closer to your scalp, providing you with a more natural look and feel.

With this wonderful, new option, less really is more! Since hand-tied wefts are thinner, larger, and lighter than typical extensions, they lay flat against your head while covering more area,. This means less has to be sewn which equals less pulling on your scalp, making them more comfortable to wear.

Installation & Maintenance

Installing extensions has always been dependent on your own natural hair. With hand-tied hair extensions, there is a little more planning involved to ensure each weft is placed in the best spot possible. This, in turn, takes more time than your typical hair extensions. In fact, the overall installation process can be between 4-6 hours.

When it comes to what’s being put into your hair, 2-4 wefts are typically sewn into each row. While one row may be all that you need, others may need two or three. It really all depends on what kind of look you’re hoping to achieve. During your hand-tied extension consultation, your Boise hair salon stylist will discuss your hair goals and what will be necessary to achieve them.

Once installed, you can expect your hand-tied extensions to last approximately 6-8 months. However, you will need to visit your stylist every 6-10 weeks to have them moved up, depending on how fast your hair grows.

Enjoy Different Hair Styles

More hair means you can enjoy a wide variety of different styles. Even more, with hand-tied extensions, there’s no limit to what you can do. Since they are tied into your hair in a way that keeps them hidden, you can pretty do much anything with your hair. Want to wear a ponytail to the gym? No problem. A braid while you sleep? Sure! If you can think it, you can do it without worrying about your extensions being seen.

Hair Extensions Boise

If you’ve been thinking about getting hand-tied, hair extensions, we’d love to help you. At unDONE Salon, we’re certified in the hand-tied hair extension method and only use top-of-the-line wefts to provide you with the results you’ve been dreaming of. The best part? You can start with a single row and build onto it little by little to see you feel. We’re confident that once you’ve tried this amazing service, you’ll only wish you would have invested soon.

Powder Brows Boise

Everything You Want To Know About Powder Brows

It can be a living struggle to deal with your eyebrows every day. This is especially true for those who have to get up extra early just to draw and fill them in. Even worse, if you are in a hurry, your eyebrows can end up looking uneven, messing up your entire makeup routine. Who wants to deal with this day in and day out? Well, if you’re looking for a better way to maintain your eyebrows, unDONE Salon offers the ultimate cosmetic solution to make life simple again. That’s why we’d like to provide you with everything you want to know about powder brows.

The Difference Between Microblading & Powder Brows

At unDONE Salon, we get asked this question a lot, so here goes:

Microblading

As somewhat of an invasive procedure, microblading is the process of tattooing natural hair strokes onto your eyebrows. This includes the beginning, arch, and tail. This form of permanent makeup is done manually and with a tool called a microblader that consists of a blade formed of tiny needles that cut hair like strokes into the skin much like a paper cut. Once this process is complete, a medical-grade pigment is applied to seep into the small, open wounds.

Powder Brows

Powder brows, on the other hand, are achieved using an electric pen with a small needle at the end that isn’t as sharp or pointy as a microblading tool. A trained and certified expert will then use this tool to puncture the skin lightly to deposit medical-grade color on top of your natural brow shape to provide you with an even and equal look. The best part? Powder brows provide you with a natural, more subtle look that just about everyone will love.

Who’s A Good Candidate For Powder Brows?

If you have grown tired of drawing and filling in your eyebrows, you are going to love the powder brow solution. It’s the best treatment option for those who have some hair, yet need more color and depth for a fuller effect. Even better, everyone is a potential candidate for powder brows because they don’t hurt as much as brows that are microbladed and can last up to 2-4 years.

How Much Do Powder Brows Cost?

At unDONE Salon, the initial powder brow service costs around $325. This includes a personalized consultation, treatment, and professional touch up 4-6 weeks later. The process takes approximately 2 ½ hours from start to finish. After that you will need to get regular touch-ups only once a year for $75.

Powder Brows Aftercare

The powder brow procedure isn’t as painful as microblading. Even more,a trained and certified expert will apply a topical anesthetic to alleviate any discomfort during the process. After the treatment, your brows will look much darker and fuller than normal. Rest assure, however, that your brows will fade to a softer, more natural color after 7-10 days.

Even more, you will be sent home with a list of after care instructions along with a specialized cleanser and protective oil to be used on your eyebrows twice a day starting the same evening as the procedure.

Powder Brow Benefits
  • You receive a long-lasting solution.
  • You get a natural, subtle look without the work.
  • It’s suitable for just about anyone.
  • Ideal solution for thin or blonde brows.
  • Virtually painless with no down-time.
  • Brows stand up to high heat.
  • Suitable for those with oily skin.

Why Hair Color Is Great For Men Too!

That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following benefits of men’s hair color.

Boost Your Self Confidence

No matter whether you are a man or a woman, who doesn’t want to feel good about themselves? Why not boost your self-confidence by sporting a color that reflects your individuality? Even more, why go grey when you don’t have too? Grey blending is a subtle way to enhance and even out what you’re already sporting in the most natural way possible.

Color Can Be Good For Your Hair

Unless you are using box dye (don’t ever use box dye), color can actually be good for your hair. At unDONE Salon, we use only the finest hair color formulas that leave your hair looking better than it was prior to coloring. Even more, with the help of our professional stylists, we can ensure your hair looks as healthy, shiny, and natural as possible.

Color Maintenance Is Easy

Color maintenance is easy as long as you use the products recommended by your Boise hair salon stylist. Even more, the hair color treatments we provide can last you through to your next haircut appointment. So why not schedule both together?

Plump Thinning Hair

As we age, men (and women) can develop thin hair. Hair color can actually plump your hair and create the illusion of fuller hair. This can be a less expensive method compared to other treatments like hair replacement surgery.

Added Shine & Dimension

Hair color can create various hues that pick up and reflect light differently. This can make your hair seem much more vibrant and interesting rather than dull and normal. Who wants to be normal anyway?

Boise Hair Salon Tips For Growing Out Your Hair

People throughout the Treasure Valley rely on their Boise hair salon to make their hair look and feel great. However, while we do everything in our power to make your hair look perfect, it doesn’t go very far if you don’t take care of your hair at home.

Even more, growing out your hair is a lot like getting your body in shape. It takes time, patience, consistency, and a wide variety of other factors. Just like working out, it’s impossible to lose 10 pounds in one day. The same goes when growing out your hair. You can’t expect to grow 10 inches overnight after one deep conditioning treatment. That’s why unDONE would like to provide you with the following tips everyone can do to keep their hair healthy and beautiful.

Turn The Heat Down

Less is more when it comes to styling your hair with hot tools. Since heat is actually your hair’s worst enemy, the less you curl or flat iron the better. Doing so will prevent brittle ends that tend to break off. By reducing the amount of heat you apply to your hair, you’ll still achieve the results you want without all the damage.

Wash Less

We say it all the time, wash your hair as little as possible. Not only can overwashing dry out your hair, but it can also strip it of natural oils that help it grow. Keep in mind that the more you wash your hair, the more you have to style it. If you feel you have to wash your hair due to an oily scalp, it’s important to invest in a good dry shampoo to help you maintain your look between washes. An oily scalp can also be a result of overcompensation from too much washing. Save yourself some time, energy, and expensive shampoo by washing your hair every other day.

Be Healthy From The Inside Out

While you can take special vitamins to help boost your hair growth, they can get also get expensive over time. Instead, it’s important to eat healthy and maintain a proper diet full of fruits, veggies, clean protein, and good carbohydrates. It’s also important to stay hydrated and drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. Doing so will keep you healthy on the inside which will be reflected on the outside through your hair, skin, and nails.

Be Nice

We already talked about reducing the amount of heat you apply to your hair. The same goes with tying back your hair. If you wear ponytails on a regular basis, you are actually stretching your hair while pushing your hair cuticles in the opposite direction, making it more prone to breakage. Even more, wearing hats, headbands, or clip in hair extensions can actually prohibit hair growth. If you must tie your hair back, try a low braid instead of a tight ponytail to give your locks a break and keep strands off your face.

Trim Often

We know it’s not what you want to hear when you’re trying to grow out your hair but it’s important to cut off split ends. This will allow it to grow long and healthy over time. While trimming your hair doesn’t make it grow any faster (an old wives tale), it does prevent it from breaking off.

Color Carefully

First and foremost, NEVER color your own hair. Boise hair salon stylists are trained professionals who formulate combinations of color pigments and chemicals for the best results possible without all the damage. If you buy an over the counter box dye at the grocery store, it is formulated to work the same for everyone no matter your hair type or texture. In fact, box dye has the highest amount of chemicals and peroxide to cover all bases. 99% of the time this causes unwanted chemical damage and uneven color results because it’s too strong for your hair. While you may think you’re saving money with box dye, it may end up costing you more money in the long run trying to correct it while putting your locks in jeopardy in the process.

Use Salon-Grade Products

The products you use at home really makes a difference when it comes the health and look of your hair. By using the salon-grade products your Boise hair salon stylist recommends, you’ll be caring for your hair in the best way possible. While professional products may seem more expensive at first, you’ll actually use less to maintain your hair thus saving you money in the long run.

Be Realistic

Don’t push your hair to be something it’s not if you aren’t willing to risk a little damage in the process. For example, if you have naturally dark hair and want to go platinum blonde, you will compromise the integrity of your hair. While we aren’t telling you not to do it (we are all about being creative and feeling great about your look), we just want you to understand what the consequence can be when you take your hair from one extreme to another.

At unDONE Salon, we are here to help keep your hair strong, healthy and beautiful. Our Boise hair salon stylists are experienced and eager to work with you and help you avoid breakage while growing it out to the length you want to achieve.

The Ultimate Guide To Leaving Your Boise Hair Salon Happy

As Boise hair salon stylists at unDONE, we are extremely passionate about what we do. That’s why it’s very important to us to make sure our clients are always happy with the results of our work. Of course, when visiting unDONE, we always want to leave feeling like you’ve gotten your money’s worth with beautiful hair.

However, just like any other industry, we’ve learned that it’s impossible to please every single person who comes into our salon. If you’ve ever had a bad Boise hair salon experience, there can be several underlying reasons that may leave you unhappy with your service that doesn’t involve the technical skills of your stylist. That’s why we’d like to share some things from a stylists point of view that our clients can do to ensure they have a wonderful salon experience.

Do Your Research & Book A Consultation

It all starts before you ever step foot in our Boise hair salon. In fact, many of our clients find us on Instagram or Facebook. Here you can find some of our featured work and even pictures liked by your own friends. This allows our clients to gain a sense of trust and comfort with us before they ever walk into unDONE. By following our accounts, you can gather pictures of our stylists work before contacting us for a consultation appointment.

Once you book a consultation, we will then take into account your current hair and the desired results you would like to achieve. We will also go over your hair history, concerns, and what you’re hoping to achieve the day of your first visit. This consultation will allow us to schedule the appropriate time needed. There is nothing worse than having a new client schedule an appointment only to realize they need a major color correction or something that will take more time than an average client.

If you book a consultation, your Boise hair salon stylist can customize the length of your appointment based on your individual needs and ensure we both have enough time to achieve your hair goals.

Have Realistic Expectations

Having realistic expectations is extremely important when it comes to your hair. In fact, this is often the main reason clients leave a salon unhappy. Clients with dark hair, wanting to go lighter don’t always understand that the process often requires more than one visit. This can be due to a variety of reasons including the integrity of your hair, whether or not it’s possible, and if the color you want to achieve is obtainable.

During a consultation, we will also explain how long the process might take and hope you trust our professional recommendations. We never promise immediate results if we know it’s going to take some time to achieve. Keep in mind, we are professional Boise hair salon stylists, not magicians. That’s why it’s important to have realistic expectations, especially if you’ve been dying your own hair with box color for years.

This goes for blondes as well. Over the years, we’ve had several clients who want to go blonder and blonder with each and every visit until it’s just not healthy for their hair. While it comes down to personal preference, it’s important to listen to the advice of your Boise hair salon stylist if you want to maintain the integrity of your hair.

Not only is it important to be realistic, it’s also just as important to understand that not everyone’s hair is the same. While we can do our best to match a color in a picture, we can’t match it exactly if your hair’s type, texture, and style are different than the model or celebrity you love. That’s why you should do your research and try to find pictures of colors and cuts with people who that have similar features, skin tone, hair length, and density as your own. Also, it’s important to keep in mind that many of the pictures that you find online or in magazines have been filtered or photoshopped to make the models look perfect. Trust us on this one and always listen to the advice of your stylist about whether or not a style is achievable.

Relax And Let Us Do Our Job

Occasionally, we have clients who come into our Boise hair salon that just have a hard time relaxing or trusting our stylists with their hair. Rest assured that we understand trust issues, especially having fixed botched hair applications and listening to horror stories from our clients with other salons. However, if you’re overly cautious and nervous we hope you give us the benefit of the doubt in order to feel more comfortable. That’s why we post pictures of our work and make sure we see eye-to-eye with our clients about each and every service.

Keep in mind that we may not always feel comfortable explaining the technicalities of our work. That’s like asking a mechanic or an electrician for a complete, step-by-step process of their services. Not to mention being overly analytical during your service can throw us off, making us unable to perform our work to the best of our ability. Remember that every Boise hair salon stylist has different techniques they are good at. You also shouldn’t believe everything you read online and understand that no one has the exact same head of hair. Always trust your Boise hair salon stylist and allow them do their job. By doing so, you will boost their confidence and allow their creativity to flow! Some of our best work has been with clients who were open, trusting, and let us go to work.

Use The Products We Recommend

If your planning on investing the time and money into our services to obtain beautiful hair, you must invest in the quality, salon-grade products we recommend. As Boise hair salon stylists, we know what products will help keep your hair looking fabulous in-between appointments. Investing in high-quality products will also help you achieve better hair color results while keeping it healthy, shiny, and beautiful. It’s not our fault if your hair looks dry or feels damaged if you don’t use the products we recommend to fix it. If you want to feel 100% happy with your hair, you have to take care of it at home as well. We promise you will notice a difference when you switch from drugstore shampoo and conditioner to the salon products we offer!

In Summary…

At unDONE Salon, we love doing fun, creative things to our client’s hair! That’s why we want you to feel happy about your service each and every time you walk out of our salon with the guide we provided above. Boise Hair Salon: The Reality Of Filtered Images

At unDONE, our Boise hair salon stylists are committed to the integrity of our work. Whether our images are captured by us or a professional photographer, our highest priority is to reflect the reality of our services. While Photoshop and Instagram filters are great resources that provide a wide variety of tools to enhance images, it’s important to distinguish what is real when it comes to what you hope to achieve when searching for a new cut or hair color online.

With a wide variety of photo apps and image editors available, it’s easy for people to misrepresent true colors and tones online. A photo taken of someone’s hair in studio lighting can appear completely different in real life under natural light. This is especially true for blonde tones or vibrant, vivid colors. Even more, hair color can appear different due to the perception of the viewer, indoor or outdoor lighting, surrounding colors, and even skin tone. While discussing possible color options with your Boise hair salon stylist, it’s important to take these factors into consideration when it comes to achieving the same flattering look of your favorite Instagram model.

Misrepresentations In The Media

Due to the nature of Photoshop and Instagram filters, services from other salons can often be misrepresented. This not only this affect a guests expectations but it can make it more difficult for a Boise hair salon stylist and their client to get on the same page. Some examples of this type of media misrepresentation can include:

  • A simple Google search for a balayage hair color can include other results such as foliages, full-highlights, and more. These are often more expensive services that are everything but the service you are looking for.
  • Before and after photos that don’t include information about the process and treatments in between. This causes clients to expect complete results in a single appointment rather than the multiple appointments they really need.
  • Images of super long, healthy hair but failing to mention the use of extensions.

When it comes down to it, it’s important to realize that we live in a filtered world. That’s why we need to be realistic when it comes to the outcome we want to achieve. While we often dislike the thought of a non-filtered photo, you don’t want to ask your Boise hair salon stylist to achieve the impossible due to a distorted reality. While you may find the perfect, most beautiful hair color online, it may not be 100% real.

unDONE Salon

Being be realistic about your expectations and seeing eye-to-eye with your stylist is extremely important. That’s why unDONE Salon, offers personalized consultations. This allows us to discuss your expectations, establish the length of time needed for the service and gather history about your hair that will affect the outcome of your desired style. A consultation will also provide you with the opportunity to discuss the cost of your desired service since there are many different styles we can help you achieve depending on your wants and needs.

Boise Hair Salon: The Ultimate Guide To Split Ends

Just like any other beauty flaw, split ends are an unwanted nuisance most people have to deal with. Unless you’re a celebrity with a personal hairstylist who can tend to your everyday needs, you more than likely have a few frayed ends that mess with your style.

What Are Split Ends?

Split ends are hair splinters that are caused by damage to the hair shaft. If left untreated, they can lead to unwanted breakage that makes the hair strand shorter. While split ends are a common nuisance that everyone deals with, it doesn’t mean you have to live with them. At unDONE, our Boise hair salon stylists are here to help you not only prevent split ends but deal with them when they inevitably show up. That’s why we’d like to provide you with the following ultimate guide to preventing and dealing with split ends.

Preventing Split Ends

Brush Carefully

It should be no surprise that brushing your hair aggressively can damage your hair. Your hair can be easily be broken making it prone to split ends so it’s important to treat it delicately. When you brush, make sure to glide gently as you slowly work out tangles. Make sure to work your way from the bottom up to gently detangle your strands rather than trying to brush from top to bottom. If your brush meets a knot, simply stop and start a little further down and continue working your way back up.

It’s also important to use the right tools to brush and detangle your hair. Our Boise hair salon stylists recommend using special detangling brushes and combs to help you reduce wear, breakage, and friction. However, the right brush depends on your specific hair type. If you’re not sure which one would work best, never be afraid to ask for a recommendation.

Reduce Heat Exposure

How hot you set your styling tools matters when it comes to preventing split ends. The hotter you set them, the more damage you will inflict upon your tresses. Our Boise hair salon stylists recommend setting your styling tools on a lower setting to see if it will get the job done. While it might take you a little longer to achieve your personal style, it will seriously help you prevent any annoying split ends.

It’s also important to work with clean hair when you’re using your styling tools because heat and oil can actually cook your hair. Make sure to properly wash your hair of built up products before you style your hair.

Don’t Over-Wash

While it’s important to clean your hair to prevent damage when you style it, it’s just as important not to over-wash your hair either. You should only wash your hair every few days and when you do, concentrate on keeping the shampoo on your scalp rather than working on your ends. Even more, when your hair is wet, it’s more prone to breakage, so be gentle when you brush it.

Avoid Overly Hot Water

When you shower, it’s important to avoid overly hot water when you wash and condition your hair. Instead, you’ll want to opt for cold or lukewarm water instead since hot water can cause your hair cuticles to swell, making them more prone to split ends. By rinsing your hair at a lower temperature, you will help close the cuticle and seal the hair shaft while making your hair soft and shiny in the process.

Getting Rid Of Split Ends

Get Regular Trims

To be honest, the only way to get rid of split ends is to have them cut out. Once your hair shaft has split, there is really nothing left that you can do. However, if you’ve been working on growing your hair out and don’t want to have to cut it, your Boise hair salon stylist can provide you with a light dusting which helps to remove split ends without cutting your length.

Use The Right Products

If you have split ends and are looking for a way to manage them before your next trim or dusting, the only thing you can do is conceal them by using the right hair care products. For frazzled ends after styling, smooth the frays with a touch of styling cream or serum. We recommend using Undone’s Everyday Miracle Treatment, Amethyst Oil, or Versatile Styling Creme to help seal the hair cuticle while fighting frizz and flyaways.

You’ll also want to hydrate your tresses since split ends need a ton of tender loving care. That’s why we also recommend our specially formulated shampoos and conditioners that proactively work together to prevent further breakage. These include Undone’s Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner, and Everyday Miracle Treatment that work to deliver silky smooth hair with radiant shine.

Nourish With A Mask

If you’re looking to replenish your hair of moisture and lost nutrients, our Boise hair salon stylists recommend using Davines Minu Hair Mask that is formulated to deeply nourish and hydrate your hair without weighing it down while also making it soft and silky. Just apply to towel-dried hair after shampooing and leave it on for approximately 10-15 minutes before rinsing.

Consider A Brazilian Blowout

A Brazilian Blowout helps to improve and prevent split ends because the treatment contains keratin, the same protein hair is made out of. Picture liquid protein being wrapped around every strand of hair, building strength and resistance to future damage. It also helps promote hair growth due to the decreased time spent blow drying or flat ironing it to perfect that smooth look everyday. Plus the strengthening qualities of the Brazilian Blowout helps to protect your hair from heat. And we all know, the less heat used on your hair the better!

At unDONE Salon, we are here to help keep your hair strong, healthy and beautiful. Our Boise hair salon stylists are experienced and eager to work with you and help you avoid split ends and breakage while obtaining the cut or hair color you want to achieve. Boise Hair Salon: Professional Hair Color Vs. Box Dye

At unDONE Salon, clients often ask us the difference between professional hair color vs. box dye you find at your local grocery store. When it comes to the outcome of your hair, there are several major differences. That’s why we’d like to provide you with a summary of what you should know to make an educated decision when it comes to choosing a professional hair color over a box dye.

Why We Don’t Recommend Box Dye

Unpredictable & Undesirable Results

Many things contribute to the outcome of your hair color. Previous color services, formula, application, and the condition of your hair are just a few of them. When it comes to box color, it’s a “one size fits all” solution that doesn’t factor in any of these elements. It doesn’t matter what your hair condition is or what’s been done to it in the past. Instead, box dye provides the same solution and developer for everyone. This can result in an unknown hair color that you may not like and can damage your hair in the process.

For example, if someone has dark brown hair and wants to dye it bright blonde, they will not achieve the results they want by grabbing a box of dye at the grocery store. If they do they will most likely end up with orange or yellow hair and very brassy undertones.

The two main reasons for this are:

  1. Color cannot lift color – If you have an old color in your hair, it must be removed before a lighter color can be applied.
  2. Box color can only lighten two or three levels – Going from a level 2 to a level 7 cannot be achieved with a box dye.
Developer & Damage

The developer that comes with box dye can range greatly. This is because most box dye is formulated to cover gray hair with a very dark shade. However, coating your hair with a high volume developer can damage your hair. Box developers contain ammonia and peroxide to chemically alter your hair by opening the cuticle and allowing the color to penetrate the shaft to permanently change your hair color. Using a developer that’s too strong or coloring previously colored hair can lead to breakage and permanent damage.

Time & Cost

When it comes to achieving the hair color you desire, you get what you pay for. If you want to avoid undesired results and damaged hair, it best to seek out a professional hair stylist at unDONE. The time money you spend to correct a bad hair color can be quite expensive. Even more, it can take up to 3-4 hours and more than one appointment. That’s why when you want to color your hair, it’s imperative to ditch the box altogether and head straight to the salon to maintain healthy, beautiful hair.

Professional Hair Color

At unDONE, our Boise hair salon stylists are trained in the art of color, chemistry, and processing. To accurately change the color and tone of your hair, you need a personalized solution. From texture to density, porosity, color, and length, everything comes into play. Even your skin tone can play an important role when it comes to determining the best color for your hair.

As hair color experts, we have the ability to lighten, darken, highlight, lowlight, balayage, and ombre your hair unlike anything box dye can do. We take the time to customize hair color for each and every client that walks through our door to provide you with the look you desire.

Boise Hair Salon Tips For Those Wanting A Short Haircut

At unDONE Salon, when we get a guest in our chair that says they are thinking about getting a short haircut, we get excited with ideas of what we could do. However, we also hear the worry of whether or not it will look good on them. As much as we love hair and believe that most people can wear some form of a short hairstyle, there are some things to keep in mind if you’re on the fence about making the cut.

Face Shape Matters

When opting for a shorter cut, it’s important to keep the shape of your face in mind. However, just because a certain cut might not look good on you doesn’t mean other short styles won’t work either — it just depends on how short you go.

To enhance your features, a short haircut is often a good choice for those with an oval face shape. However, if you have a round face, you can still get a shorter cut with layers throughout to add some height and make your face appear longer.

If you have a heart-shaped face, you can add some longer bangs to your short haircut to disguise a wider forehead. Nonetheless, it’s important to talk with your Boise hair salon stylist about what styles they suggest depending on your individual face shape and the look you’re hoping to achieve.

Short Styles Aren’t Always “Wash & Go”

A common myth we often have to dispel at unDONE is that short hair is “wash and go” ready. In fact, this isn’t a common reality. Short hair often requires the use of professional salon products to add texture and accentuate your style. You may also need to use recommended styling tools like a blow-dryer, flat iron, or curling wand to add volume, curl, and bounce.

Wavy Hair Can Go Short

Having wavy hair doesn’t mean you can’t opt for a short haircut. While it’s important to consider your hair’s texture, there are a wide variety of short cuts that will work for you. Keep in mind, however, that you might end up enhancing your waves when removing additional weight from them. That’s why you might want to consider keeping it on the longer side of short to help work with what you naturally have.

Growing It Back Won’t Be A Problem

If you end up going with a shorter cut and end up not liking it as much as you thought you would, don’t fret. At unDONE, our Boise hair salon stylists can provide you with some wonderful “in between” haircuts as you grow it back out. Even more, you may end up with a style that you absolutely love and want to stick with. While it may seem like a time-consuming task, growing your hair back out isn’t as bad as we make it out to be in our minds. In fact, it’s a great way to try new hairstyles that you may not even considered.

Short Hair Isn’t Just For Boys

At unDONE, we often hear concerns about whether or not a short haircut will appear feminine. Of course, it will! Short hair isn’t just for boys. Nothing shows off a beautiful necklace or pair of earrings like an amazing short haircut. Even more, if you find yourself constantly pulling back your hair in a ponytail, a fun, sassy short haircut can provide you with a softer, more feminine look.

Boise Hair Salon: Are Your Hair Care Products Safe?

If you’ve been to unDONE, you already know that our exclusive hair care products are sulfate and paraben-free. Not to mention we offer the sustainable beauty of Davines that offers plant-based, natural, biodegradable ingredients that not only care for your hair but are environmentally safe. But what does that mean for you? What makes our products different from those containing sulfate and paraben ingredients? Why are these ingredients so harmful?

What Are Sulfate & Paraben Ingredients?

Have you ever wondered what’s in your store-bought shampoo? What makes it lather and how it makes your hair feel soft? The truth is that unless you are buying professional-grade salon products, your shampoo most likely contains harmful chemicals that can actually damage your hair and even your health. Parabens are chemicals that are used to prevent bacteria. Sulfates are cleansing and foaming agents. While paraben and sulfate ingredients were developed with the best intentions they are also linked to cancer and can be found in a wide variety of other cosmetic products like deodorant, makeup, toothpaste, body wash, and lotions.

Why Are They So Harmful?

First and foremost, sulfates can break down the proteins of your hair. These proteins are what your hair needs to be healthy. Sulfates can also leave a thick residue behind making it seem like it feels soft and clean. They can dry out your hair and irritate your scalp. Even more, sulfate-containing products offer no color protection. This means that after spending your hard-earned money on a custom hair color, a sulfate shampoo and conditioner will wash it right out.

Parabens, on the other hand, are put into our cosmetic products to extend their shelf life. However, they also mimic the hormone estrogen in the body which can increase your chances of developing breast cancer. Even worse, your body can store parabens for long periods of time, which in turn, can present a variety of health risks.

How Can You Avoid These Chemicals?

When searching for quality hair care products, it’s important to understand that the labels won’t say “sulfate” or “paraben”. Instead, they will be listed with a prefix before them such as “calcium sulfate.” Salon-grade products, however, often label their products as sulfate and paraben-free so you know what you’re buying. As Boise hair salon stylists, we always suggest buying your hair care products from our salon or other professional beauty stores.
